Prices for an Early Sunburst?

Question

I'd like to pick up an early vintage Sunburst. I see that no one here jumped on the the frogburst currently on eBay, so I'm guessing that one's priced out of market. I'd welcome some guidance on current prices for early Sunbursts in VG or better condition. Also, if anyone is considering letting one go, I'd welcome offers; my preferences are toward this color (whatever it's called):

From quickly just using the search forum on this site it seems they can go for anything between 1500$ to 3000$ for a nice one from around 1979.

You can still score one for cheap if you are extremely lucky, finding someone who does not really know what they have. But i'd say from around 2000$ for a nice dot one, from 1980 and up, to around 3000$+ for a nice crowned and bound 78-79. That is my fair guess at least.

edit, oh I clicked the link and saw zero bids on the "frog burst "! Well, perhaps not a popular colour, but for 1499 I still say that is a steal. Suprised that it has had no takers. None original case. but the price is still good.

It looks pretty worn, and the bridge pickup is turned the wrong way. And it looks like it might not be a Dimazio. Still, the neck pup is there. Those are the hard ones to find. A used early 80s Dimarzio double creme can be had for between 50-100$.

The post-79 ones have slimmer necks in all but rare cases too, which also seems to be reflected in price.

Unrelated to the original question, but is his toggle switch rotated? It doesn't seem to be at the same angle as on the various Studios I've owned.

Since mid March four Sunbursts have sold between $2500 & $3000 on ebay. Is demand higher than usual?

I for one think the demand has seen and uptick resulting in sound prices for early Sunbursts.

Are those final sales to buyers or asking prices? I've seen several ACTUAL sales less than that since January.

Of the top of my head, the most recent one in May was $2,600 with a BIN.

Yep. Pre-1980 ones have gone up a good bit. I've seen a few with selling prices between $2k and north of $2500. Crowns and earlier ones are fetching more than dots. Saw at least one dot-necked 79 go for close to $2k a month or two ago.

I believe gearwhore (smileitsfree?) sold a 79 for $3K. The selling prices I saw were final sale, not best offer. The search only went back like 90 days.
