DaveX Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Can anyone tell me approximately how many of the original Flat-Top Sunbursts ('77- '84) were made? Do any members know of a page(here) or a Website with Shipping/Production figures?? or is this a secret?!
Jem Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Serial will be able to give you the best guesstimate but like many, Hamer's record keeping could be a trifle lapsed at times.
ARM OF HAMER Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Not enough! And a hell of a lot less than Gibson Les Pauls!
DaveX Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 Not enough! And a hell of a lot less than Gibson Les Pauls! Yeah! That's what prompted my question in the first place! Gibson only made roughly 1800 LP Standards between '58-'60 and just look at the ridiculous prices they command! I have noticed a few postings recently about the increase in Sunburst prices and was wondering how many had been built as the demand does seem pretty high!, we just have to hope that someone like Boe Jonamassa doesn't start playing a Sunburst because then the prices would go through the roof!!
serial Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 From 1977 through 1979, about 1550-1600. I have that info, but no way to tell for sure after that.
Andrew Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 After the 1500ish Holmes Sunbursts (77-79) the numbers must have dropped as all the new models came on line.Relatively few in 1980 as the Special was the main guitar being built and from 1981 onwards the number of models expanded rapidly. In the years 80-84 I would estomate there were the same again or perhaps even fewer. So in total say 2500-3000.As an aside a 1982 Sunburst does feel different to a 79 Holmes-built guitar. From a collecting point of view I would risk saying that they are different beasts and, that if there is ever a perceived Golden Age, themost desirable would be late 78 and 79; there's just a thousand of those out there.
boundandcrowned Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Is anyone able to estimate the number of the Flat-Top Sunburst reissues they made around '89 before they switched to the Archtop? Thanks.
cmatthes Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Very few. It was a catalog model, but Floyds still ruled the day.
Andrew Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 The 1990ish re-issues are indeed rather few in number. They were listed as a "Custom Design" in the catalogue and must have been made in small batches as required. Probably a third to a half were floyded and rather unlike the original design.Without the Lost Logbooks who knows how many? A hundred, maybe a few more. Remember they are contemporary with the Centaura, a model made in big numbers (for Hamer), as well being very short-lived.They come up for sale infrequently and I wouldn't have thought hundreds are languishing in collections.
ARM OF HAMER Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 So one could say that this guitar is a fairly uncommon find, seems like that would be a decent price Are those PUPs DiMarzios or Duncans?
Andrew Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Should be Seymour Duncan, JB and 59neck if memory serves.
ARM OF HAMER Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 So this has to be one of the last or the last Hamer "Sunburst" for the 1970s run?....................least by the serial numbers Hamer provides and those I have seen here on the HFC. I understand that there were probably left over guitars from the "Holmes" build that were carried over into 1980 so............... but here is the breakdown I'm going by. 1970s: 7 0001 - 9 1450 1980s: 0 1451 - 9 24192 1990s: 0 24193 - 9 50155 2000s: 0 50156 - present
Disturber Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 What was the serial number for the last Tom Holmes Sunburst. And/or the first serial no for the first built entirely by the Hamer crew?
Question
