specialk Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Look around Roy's shop. He has good stuff and knows Hamer's. http://www.rsguitarworks.net/cms2/
triodecr Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 If it's a USA built studio and is working fine, you're just wasting your money. The jack and switch are Switchcraft and the pots are custom, I believe made by CTS.
Armitage Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Yeah. Don't buy snake oil... Hamer uses top quality parts.

Armitage Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Learn to solder. It's a necessary skill for any guitarist and it's easy.

Bobby Marshall Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 If soldering you need the proper tool as follows: I present the Murkat-approved station from Circuit Specialists. He recommended this a few years ago and it is still one of my favorite guitar- related purchases. They do have more expensive digitally-controlled versions and what not, but this thing is great! Heats up in seconds and is completely rebuildable. Get a couple of different sized chisel tips and you're in business in a big way. They had a special going when I bought mine - I got a fantastic multimeter for free! Great folks to deal with.

I've had good results with a plain 40W iron.
serial Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 DO NOT waste your money on an RS kit. Agreed on the 'snake oil' comment above. The Hamer pots are among the best you can get. Your switch is very likely fine too. Open the cavity, unscrew the switch and press the contact tabs together a bit (slightly bending them inward if that makes sense). 3 way switch contacts can spread out over time through use. 4/5 times in my experience, the switch doesn't need to be replaced. Either that or the switch tip is hanging up on the knurled collar. Make sure the collar is tightened down correctly-that'll pop a switch too.

Same watts, same price, different model number, different face plate.
tbonesullivan Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I have to pull the electronics for my Newport soon, to return the 3-way switch to stock. One of my biggest fears is that one of the Previous owners had the Hamer electronics ripped out and replaced with cheap crap. I don't get why anyone would even want to replace hamer electronics.
