sonic1974 Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 http://spacemanmusic.com/Guitars/Electric+Guitars/Gibson+SG+Jr.+1966+electricDoes this seem like a good price to you guys?I was thinking of trying it out, seems pretty tempting. Not too crazy about the bridge, but aside from that it seems really cool.
tomteriffic Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 In that kind of shape, Oh hell yeah, snag it and don't look back. The bridge, well, yeah, but no biggie. A replacement is easy and fairly cheap, throw the original in the case and go.
sonic1974 Posted December 18, 2015 Author Posted December 18, 2015 Really eh? You think it's a good price? I was checking ebay for a comparison, and the prices are all over the place. I guess I should find the sold price rather than the asking price. It's so tempting I admit!!
tomteriffic Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 That one is almost as original as you're likely to find and original tuners and/or repros are also easy and cheap. And great shape other than the normal buckle rash. I recently paid $1,200 for a beat but very playable 63/64. At $1,500 I'd say that its a good to great deal. Oh, and yeah, sold prices are what matters. You can ask whatever you want, but it doesn't mean much.
crunchee Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Ask how wide the neck is at the nut before doing anything else.
sonic1974 Posted December 18, 2015 Author Posted December 18, 2015 Ask how wide the neck is at the nut before doing anything else. Are some too thin at the nut?
crunchee Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Ask how wide the neck is at the nut before doing anything else. Are some too thin at the nut? Some mid-late '60's SGs I've played have been too narrow at the nut, for me anyway...about the same width as narrow-neck Hamer Specials from the '80's, IIRC.

I wasn't aware of that.
gtone Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Spaceman Music is good to haggle with - they made a super deal with me on the Garnet Lil Rock. See that one is on consignment, so they might be a little constrained in negotiation power, but all the same, it's worth a shot... They have a Fender Brown Super c/w road case, at a very good price also. CDN$1,899 comes out to about US$1,376 at current exchange rate - I'm pretty tempted at even the CDN$ price frankly.
sonic1974 Posted December 19, 2015 Author Posted December 19, 2015 Hey Gtone , are you in Ottawa? Yeah, I tried that brownface , sounds great!!
atomicwash Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 I have a '66. Great playing, great sounding, and great looking. Worth every penny.
gtone Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Hey Gtone , are you in Ottawa? Yeah, I tried that brownface , sounds great!! No - Moose Jaw, SK... I have a '68 SG Junior. It has a narrow neck at the nut, but it's quite meaty and thick. Also have another Norlin-era SG with same profile neck and they're both perfect for playing slide on. Best of all, I can play either all day without the hand cramps I got with the wide, thin neck on my old Hamer Special FM.
sonic1974 Posted December 19, 2015 Author Posted December 19, 2015 Thanks for the feedback guys. Just did some Xmas shopping and a few odds and ends I needed around the house. Checked my bank balances and cooler heads prevailed, I'll have to hold off on anything major like that. Plus, I'm seriously thinking of some type of Shiskov down the road, so gotta save my pennies towards that!!
crunchee Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Wise choice regards the Shishkov! 'Vintage' doesn't always mean 'better', but it does mean 'old'.
mrjamiam Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 If only it was from my birth year! I have amps that old, but not a guitar. I guess I could tell my sister about this one, but I doubt she'd buy it.
