triodecr Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Has anyone had a stereo barrel jack that cords would get stuck in? Thx
G Man Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 No, but if you figure out how to get it of out, let me know. I lost a wah pedal to a cable end that refuses to come out.

I lost a wah pedal to a cable end that refuses to come out. It hasn't happened to me but supposedly a guitar I sold on Reverb is having this issue. Never had an issue with it when I owned the guitar and it was fine when I gave the guit the once-over before packing it up. The buyer only wants $150 to get it fixed. So I'll be getting it back to evaluate. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll let you know what I find out.
HamerDave Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 I had a jack on my Rivera that pulled the tip off a cable. I had to unsolder it from the board, take it apart to get the piece out, the reassemble and reinstall it. Made for an interesting couple of hours..
anotherfreak Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 Monster cable?? I have heard their diameter is "different"
Jakeboy Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 I use BillLawrence cables and had one of their pedalboard jacks get stuck like that in my Artist. I love the cable but switched out and plugs to George L's if they go into a guitar. The BL's don't have an issue with pedals, ways, other guitars...just Hamer barrel jacks. BL has since changed plugs.
triodecr Posted June 10, 2016 Author Posted June 10, 2016 So I got the guitar back yesterday and couldn't recreate the problem with the 4 cables I have on hand, one of which was a George L's, the same kind of cable that was getting stuck in the guitar. All I can figure is there are certain cables with quality control problems or wider allowed machining tolerances. Maybe the barrel jacks have a nominal diameter that's closer to 0.25" and if you get an oversized plug and smaller than nominal jack, you have problems. As an aside I opened the control cavity and found the prick had cut the wires on the JB and presumably tried another bridge pickup in the guitar. He put it back together by twisting the wires back together (he left just enough length on the wires going to the switch and pot) and covering them with electrical tape. He was a pretty big prick about the jack but failed to disclose that he modified the wiring. I tried to nail him for the local going rate to fix the wiring. We'll see how that goes. I'll now be shooting video demonstrating anything I sell along with detailed pictures of the wiring before I ship it. Some peoples fuckin' kids!
Jakeboy Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 Take off the electrical tape, and solder the wires together. It will sound as good as new with no adverse repercussions. Use u-shaped hooks on each end or twist them up tight and solder them together. Good as new.
atomicwash Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 All that for a $15 jack (a really nice one)?!?! Jeezus! So the guy can solder pickups and not jacks?!?! Jeezus!

Hamer Dave Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 So, you sold to Bozo? Plug can be bent, or some plugs mainly cheapies are different profile/spec and will cause all kinds of issues. Dude needed a quality guitar cord. Not the $5 ones.
HSB0531 Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 My experiences have been with Switchcraft products that are made in China, OnStage products, and some Neutrik products. OnStage cables with XLR male connectors are so bad, that once you plug them into a standard XLR female jack, they don't come out. On-Stage 1/4 plugs are short and thin. There's Switchcraft A3M connectors made here & in Mexico that are in spec. Then there's Switchcraft AA3M connectors made in China that are out of spec. Same with Almost all Neutrik 1/4" plugs, at .002" under-sized Same goes for any connector stamped "China" - avoid it. The stuff that is in spec: Switchcraft straight plugs: http://www.switchcraft.com/productsummary.aspx?Parent=70 Switchcraft Rt. Angle plugs: http://www.switchcraft.com/productsummary.aspx?Parent=400 Neutrik NP2CM-B/R military 1/4" plugs: http://www.neutrik.us/en-us/plugs-jacks/mil/b-gauge-type/np2cm-b http://www.neutrik.us/en-us/plugs-jacks/mil/b-gauge-type/np2cm-r Neutrik NP2RX-Ultimate plug: http://www.neutrik.us/en-us/plugs-jacks/np2rx-ultimate

Yeah, but that's not the way I sent it out and not the way I would want to receive it as a buyer. Electrically, it's the same but since there's enough lead length on the pickup, I'll put it back together the way it ought to be.

Paypal didn't accept the videos of me unpacking it and showing that there was nothing wrong with the guitar, so they screwed me. Paypal sucks! I'll be looking into Reverb's Direct Checkout for any future listings.

If you go with genuine Switchcraft products from the list I linked to, you'll have no problems. The model 250 plug is the one to go with. The model 11 jack is the one that mates perfectly to it: http://www.switchcraft.com/productsummary.aspx?Parent=68

If the guy messed with it, he shouldn't be allowed to send it back. And it sounds like he was using junk cable ends that were too sheet to make contact.
