Holy F*ck!  $1575.00 for a project?

Wouldn't be surprised to see it in a year or so, refurbished, with a price tag of 3 grand and the seller emphasizing it's rarity.

You'd lose money at 3k unless you did the work yourself.

Well another question then...................lets suppose something....................let say the work that needs to be done gets done and its all top notch...............this guitar does not have its original case which i have to believe is as rare as the guitar itself. The guitar though "RESTORED" now is not original as it left Hamer,so what value can be placed on it if one decides to put it up for sale? What would be the market price [ A guitar in excellent condition with the OHSC] for a all original Hamer Scepter? I'm no expert on Hamer guitars but this looks like a very involved project in both time and money given whats there and what needs to be done.

It's not an investment, you do it because you want it and intend on keeping it.  If you're looking for ways to lose half you're money, I can think of many that require less effort and are more fun.

I never bought any of my guitars as a investment............only as  instruments..........although some turned out to be sold for more than I paid for them. Its the buyers money I have no issue with him buying the guitar I'm not down on anyone.....not my call ,just surprised what it sold for that is all. Anyone here NOT surprised?

I'm not at all surprised~ that's a great guitar "for the right person" & someone that knows what they're doing... someone that had a spare loner guitar/guitars for parts... I would have bought it myself had it not had the broken/repaired headstock... ask yourself when was the last time you saw one for sale?... I used to see them pop up every once in a while around 10 years ago but none since... Investment?.. the way I figure, it's going to take the same amount of money to restore a crap guitar as opposed to one that may have decent resale value... you may break even if you're lucky but would have had loads of fun & have learned a little something in the process... & as far as the original case is concerned, that's never been a deal-breaker "to me" anyways... but you are correct in that finding that original case would probably be even harder than finding the guitar itself as it's wingspan is roughly 1.5" to 2" wider than the traditional Vectors or Gibson V's and will NOT fit in their case... "it's gonna need a Coffin Case or a custom built TKL"... just my two cents :P

Hahaha!.. to be honest, I'm a bit disappointed in myself that I did not pursue this as "although it sold for quite a bit"... I would have loved the opportunity to have resurrected her and document the journey for the HFC forum~ I have a late 84/85 Blitz with a twisted neck that would have been a perfect loner guitar & already have spare Floyd Rose parts... my common sense got the best of me and I couldn't justify "although I had free money in my PayPal account" and got cold feet at the last minute... but then again... you only live once right? :P

It makes me appreciate and cherish mine even that much more~

This seller Matt is 20 minutes from me. I got a Chap' a couple years ago from him. He mentioned this project guitar, and I told him I'd be very interested when he got around to selling. He done real good with $1526.67on this. Sanded neck, and I'm sure this turned color from the pink due to the clear aging/yellowing. Just don't look up values in the Vintage Guitar Price Guide if you are the buyer. Pitiful, on most all the Hamer models.

I've a similar one 5 1460# that retained the pink color pretty well. Has the craziest massive pimped out frets like nothing I've ever seen. Writing in the Bridge Pickup route. '333', then under that 'AJ ?'. Any idea what that's about?

Happy Holidays.

Awesome!.. I have 5 1428#... I'd love to have other HFC members chime in with pics and info regarding their Scepter V's... as you know, there's not very many of them still out there... "333 & AJ"?.. perhaps I'll make the time today to continue my alien autopsy... I've been meaning to pull my pickups out & give it a looksie under the hood~ :P

Cool Dave Scepter, and the one posted in this thread appears to have just 'K2'. Mine has the two lines of script mentioned. Surely, some type of build reference.

You know, I'd never even heard of a Scepter V until Dave's purchase a couple of weeks ago and then this one showing up on eBay.  It is a gorgeous guitar.  Roughly how many were ever made? 50-100 range?

Yup~ from what I gather, that's also my "Guestimate".. I tried to PM Chris but I guess his inbox was full...  I think I'll start a new "Calling all Scepter V owners" thread & try to narrow down a more accurate assessment

I would have expected more were built, but looking at 'the book' it looks like the Scepter V, Wedged V, and also known as Wedged Vector were never listed in their Price List, and built but one year. Where as the Standard Scepter was more prolific, with production spanning many years and being the priciest item after the Standard being taken off the list. Hope I got all that right. ;)

I was being a bit sarcastic, throwing out typical used case pricing. I paid a premium for mine, knowing their rarity. Being there was a white Floyd arm in the case pocket, there may have been a Scepter V built with white hardware???

I'm guessing this particular Scepter either started out pink, then got a factory re~spray or the pink may have been a base coat to achieve that golden champagne color?

I'd be surprised to see a Scepter Vee case sell for less than $200-250, actually.  I'd be surprised if there were 50 of those out there, actually.  There was a white 3 pickup one with White/Gold hardware at the '85 NAMM show.

Looking at serial number unaffected, I'd say again it's the clear coat that turned yellow. There are spots where the clear flaked/chipped and the pink is there. In some environments you'd be surprised how yellow it'll get. I've two white phantoms from '82. One that came from New Orleans is so yellow (and checked) compared to the other.

What was the official name to this pink/pearl finish? Seems to have been a popular color that year. I'd like to know the proper name. Probably a lot cooler sounding than 'pink'. ;)

Thank Chris,

I suspected there had to be at least one. I've a black Scarab bass with the white/gold. Pretty cool, but I need to find a tuner for one that had been replaced. May improvise a gold one.
