crunchee Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Anybody here ever heard of or encountered one of these guitars before? I'd never heard of this coming out until just now, and apparently it's been out awhile. Looks like it was thought up by the same guy (Brendon Small) that brought us Adult Swim's Metalocalypse/Dethklok, and 'conceived' Gibson's/Epiphone's Thunderhorse Explorer guitars...it's kinda the opposite of the 'none more black' look, more like a polar bear in a blizzard: http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Flying-V/Gibson-USA/Brendon-Small-Snow-Falcon-Flying-V.aspx http://www.epiphone.com/News/Features/2016/Ltd-Ed-Brendon-Small-Snow-Falcon-Outfit.aspx The all-white fretboard also reminds me of the limited edition all-white Rickenbackers that were made many years ago. Edit: I thought those Ricks were all white including fretboards too, but I can't seem to find any white fretboarded examples online! I wonder what FMIC/Gretsch thought about the use of the 'Falcon' name? I don't think anybody would ever confuse a Flying V with a hollowbody Gretsch, but still they couldn't have been very pleased about it. It also reminds me of a few guitars that over the years have been called 'Eclipse' or 'Mirage' (including by Hamer), that's the handiest examples that I can think of for a 'common' guitar name.
cmatthes Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 I've seen those - cool concept. Washburn also had a "Falcon" model guitar in the '80s.
zorrow Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 I was aware of their existence. There's even a recent Epi variant. Not very excited by that finish though.
Willie G. Moseley Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 Think about how well something like that would reflect stage lighting; that's the main reason white would be my preferred finish for performance instruments. That said, I'd have to have fret markers and black knobs to be able to see the contrast onstage....simple pragmatism. And methinks that Ric series was called the Tuxedo.

Willie G. Moseley Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 One of the worst things about the Antigua finish is if it yellows, it turns the color of the yolk in a hard-boiled egg....

Ronnie Barnett of The Muffs has played an original USA Antigua Fender P-Bass for years, it's well relic'ed.
