Stylus/needle for old turntables?

Jeff R

Question

Buddy of mine needs a needle for this Magnavox Micromatic console.

He doesn't have a model name or number but here's quick photo for now ... any of you guys have an online vendor to whom I can recommend for finding styli for these jewels of the past?

I've used them for both a needle and cassette deck belt for my Father-in-law's JC Penney MCS stereo system.

Oh, man, the MCS stereo!  Had one of those myself.

Given that, by current standards, that's a non-standard mounting, it's a fair guess that it's a ceramic cartridge.  Possibly magnetic, but....

The best way to find the right replacement would be to get a good look at the cartridge.  A light and maybe a magnifying glass would help.  There's likely some markings on it that would give a clue as to the model number.   If it's a ceramic or crystal cartridge it's virtually certain to have a Pfanstiehl replacement needle.  Then go here:

If it's a magnetic, they may well have a replacement as well.
