BruceM Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 I need to glue a Z logo back onto a grillcloth. What do you use for that? I'd be hard pressed to find any non-solidified glue tube in my house at the moment.
Jeff R Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 Start with least intrusive for sure. Do you have Titebond Original (red label, water soluble if you need to break the bond)? Or a hot glue gun that uses those sticks? Whatever you use, I'd go with the "less is more" approach so you don't get squeeze-out bulging out the sides or running down the grille. Also, see if you can remove the grill so you can glue it laying flat, not vertical!
bubs_42 Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 If it was me, I would use the transfer style double sided tape that is used to hold templates, to me its the closest to what is originally used. I bought a roll of it and i'll send you some if you want.
gtrdaddy Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 Clear silicone is what some of manufacturers use. It won't damage the fabric, although if you wanted to permanently remove it you'll spend an hour picking the remaining silicon left behind out of the fabric. run a bead on the back of the logo, spread it out, then run a bead on top of the spread out silicone and press on. It works pretty well.

gtrdaddy Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 Meant to add on my initial post that the big advantage to the silicon is that if you choose to replace the grill in the future you can remove the badge safely for reuse without damaging it.

Same with a hot glue gun... plus the hot glue gun is almost instant... neener, neener, neener 😂

Menehune Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 If you want to preserve tone, you gotta use hot hide glue. None of that cold-hide-glue-in-a-squeeze-bottle stuff. Get yourself a tin of glue flakes, a glue pot, a bottle of water, and a flux brush, and then do it up right. Seriously, the advice on silicone cement is good. Or ask Dr. Z what he uses.
