Disturber Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 Are they for real or a novelty act? I kinda like them sometimes because they can be groovy. Then at other times I dunno what to think when they feel like hipsters reincarnated (now there is a band name for you...) I mean here the drummers drummings style looks like someone who is in his/hers first school band, and the whole lot looks like they raided the tv stations costume ware house 30 minutes before showtime, "Hey, look, this looks really cool", "Yeah, you should wear that, man. It looks ´authentic`". What do you think about them...? Discuss in groups below. Props for that cool Ibanez Firebird though. But it also feels very "aware", not to be playing a Gibson, but an old Japanese copy. A very hipster thing to do.

Jakeboy Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 They have been around quite a while. They are quite different than the White Stripes. Auerbach loves fuzz and plays in the Mississippi Hill Country style when he is at his best. The early albums are killer. Just rough, fuzz-laden Hill Country blues. Do a deep dive. The Delta Kream album from last year was a great return to form.

That's when I first heard of them.
Jakeboy Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 El Camino was a change in direction for them. Very poppy (for them) but in a good way.
DJL Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 I still play Rory Gallagher records almost every day .... so WTF do I know ? I figure , when someone modern improves on it .... I'll give it a spin . D.~

I was very recently asking my dad (age 89) about his parents and their musical abilities, he said that his dad played harmonica pretty well, and some piano, but only on the black keys because "there are fewer of them".

For El Camino and Turn Blue Brian Burton (Danger Mouse) helped with the writing. Definitely more pop and IMHO considerably better than their other albums.

Ah yes, and the black keys coincidentally spell out Eb Minor Pentatonic/Gb Major Pentatonic. Get your Superstition on! 😂
