Slammer Series Daytona Electronics

Question

Hey Guys, I recently cleaned up and buffed out my Hamer Slammer Series Korea Daytona. It looks great now.

I decided to change out the pickups, which may or may not be a bad idea. I found a guy locally with a set of Jimi Hendrix signature pickups, he gave me those and the 250k Pots for $120 (like new) I took out the old stuff (Cor Tek 500k pots)

I am wondering about the import 5 way switch. Since everything is all wired together I thought I might get a new Fender switch as well. I am also going to replace some of the old wiring. But getting a new switch either means ordering and waiting or taking a almost one hour round trip to GC.

So the question is. Is the Fender switch better? As always some say yes some say no. Also I am assuming the pots will be better than what I have as well.  Any advice?

I usually only replace the switch if it is crusty beyond use. Then any decent (the Fender will do) replacement will do.
The 250k pups will serve you better methinks.

The import switches - if yours is one of the box switches - are largely garbage in my opinion.  I'd get a halfway decent Fender, CTS, DiMarzio, Oak-Grigsby...whatever, 5-way.

They're honestly cheap - between $8-$15, and Amazon will get you one to your door same day in many cases, depending upon where you live.

And Korean Daytonas.

They're not terrible, Mike. I mean, as far as imports go. There are worse places to start with a FrankenStrat build. I didn't care for the neck on the one I had, but it was otherwise a decent guitar. Had I known about my now-favorite AllParts neck at the time, I might still have it. Probably not, but maybe. B)

The best part of RickRock's project is that any of the new parts can transfer to another build, if and when the time comes. It never ends, so the odd are pretty good. :D

Unless the guitar is for a child or someone who has never played before, aspire to own better than "not terrible" guitars.
And the parts should be taken out of circulation, not transfered, lest they infect otherwise quality instruments.

Which switches are you referring to?

Your link doesn't work correctly

Coincidentally, neither does his current switch.

Yeah Yeah I know. I do have 3 USA's (Cali, Studio, & Phantom 12) but I really like my Korean Daytona, and my Korean Scalloped neck. Cali.  I probably should not have wasted my time. But too far to go back now. I did buy an new switch and pots, just have to finish putting it back together.
