It's a "behind the nut clamp" not a a Floyd nut that goes through the neck... more than likely a Kahler clamp

That is a really cool guitar except for that awful Floyd; was there some deep societal pressure back then to put tremolos on everything?

Would there be a huge cavity routed out of the back for the claw and springs?

That is a kahler locking nut, so 4 small wood screws, easy to fill

That stupid Floyd string bar though, why is it even there? Unnecessary with the locking nut

1) curious why would you want to fill the holes 

2) the "string retainer" is there to put downward pressure on the strings to the nut "before tightening string clamps"

re #2 that string retainer goes with a Floyd nut in order to keep strings from rattling (shitty engineering), keeps the string in a downward arc, again goes with a Floyd nut.

The kahler locking nuts did not need that.. superflous, like rice rocket kids putting wings on the back of their front wheel drive  civics

I'm intrigued and motivated by the concept of doing right by something very special, no pun intended.. there is something spiritual about these pre acquisition hamers, people can tell just by picking them up.. and in my case there would be no cost as I do my own work, plus winter projects are fun to stack up

I agree, that's why I bought a Sustain Block and sunk a ton of money into it, and had BCR Greg restore it. And then sold it.
Then I bought it back.

I sunk even more money into it.  I bought a NEW set of bullseye Grovers and had it completely redone by murkat.

And then sold it again.

That's very cool, I really admire the cause, but remember to do it justice, you'd have to cap "veneer" both sides after filling the spaces then repainting... most people don't have the resources to do that kind of work... but that's great that you'd want to tackle the restore

It’s funny, I feel like I picked the right price for the guitar but I’ve been really blown away by the interest. There’s a small, very vocal contingent of Hamer USA fans it seems.
