Really nice Mirage II in good shape. Has some wear from existing in the world for 30+ years like minor dents and some swirl marks but nothing major. The frets are in great shape and were recently crowned and polished. The Koa top has great 3D depth and its always tough to capture them in photos compared to maple tops IMO. The nut has been replaced with polished unbleached bone. The pickups are Tonerider Birminghams, which are quite nice PAF-style humbuckers. Push-pull on the tone pot splits the coils. This guitar didn't have a case when I got it but it will ship in a gig bag and be well packed. $1499 plus shipping depending on location. It probably won't be expensive. Would also consider trades for other Hamers.

I would be much more tempted if I hadn't bought a studio custom just a few months ago! Yours does seem like a really good deal too.

Did you pick it up, by any chance? Just wondering if it's a reasonable weight. The GC in Rockford had one that felt like it was 10 lbs. or more.

So sorry to hear, I greatly enjoyed talking to him about the LA scene, where he saw Guns and Roses pre Appetite and deemed them sloppy AF... and explained the switch from neon glam to more street (dirty biker chic). His sense of humor seemed like it was formed in rarified air... R.I.P.

Jay is awesome. I’ve never met him in person, but our worlds collided in many ways in California. He used to work the door at The Strand in Redondo Beach. We went to the same rock and metal clubs in Hollywood. He lived around the corner from me in the Berkeley Hills when he was going to school in the Bay Area. Though we never met face-to-face, I’m 99.9% sure that we interacted at some point (our HFC IMs seemed to bear this out…). I hope his journey to Valhalla is an easy one. Rest in power, Jay.

Even though I'm not a HFC-veteran, this news make me sad. I know you all for more than 12 years now and wouldn't trade that for anything. Too many good guys lost. Mr. Rechts, rest in peace.

I'm not a fan of Billy Joel. Never have been. Just not my style, nothing against him. I learned a lot about him in this video as a fellow who doesn't know how to read music and plays by ear. I appreciate him as a musician now.

I have a few pickups I'm going to try in the neck position. On top of the list is an OX-4. It's sitting on the bench right now. I bought this guitar because of Glen Buxton and it does great Buxton sound in the bridge. I'm not going to touch that pickup. I'm also not a fan of potted pickups and didn't know the '57s were potted. Makes no sense since they are supposed to be PAF style pickups. I watched several videos yesterday comparing SGs to LPs and they all said the SG is much more mid forward, hence Angus Young. One of my all-time albums of my youth was, "On Your Feet Or On Your Knees," BOC, which was all SGs back then as far as I can remember. Great tones in a band setting. Just not quite what I do when I jam alone. I can see how it would be great in the mix but that's not my thing right now. Thanks for your suggestions. If the OX doesn't chime it up, nothin' will.

In November of last year, I started playing with an established local cover band in which the drummer is a longtime friend of mine. One of their more popular covers is "New York State of Mind", which isn't much of a guitar tune, but was fun to learn in terms of backing chord progressions. Their previous lead guitarist had noodled his way through the sax solo (no horns in this band). Sounded fine, but I decided to learn the sax fills and solo at least 90% note-for-note. It's a blast to play and members of the audience love the tune played faithful to the original. More recently, we added Anthony's Song/Movin' Out. Another fun cover and a challenge to nail down all the details. The experience has given me a new and robust appreciation of Mr. Joel, his musicianship, and his writing prowess. Looking forward to watching his Beato interview, as Rick is a stellar interviewer.
