  1. this leads into a twist on an old joke: a gentleman is someone who can play rock and roll accordian, but doesn't.
  2. I was at a 'garage sale' at a local music store a few weeks ago: all the missing spring cover plates have been located! Mystery solved.
  3. next time you see someone's overly complicated pedalboard(s), consider the rack units that used to be popular, hmm... Are these just floor mounted rack effects. each with a built in footswitch?
  4. Poor little rich girl. My 16 yr old daughter likes to go on drives with me and listen to music: she drives, her music, she LOVES music and we agree on quite a bit of it. We drive around in her mom's car which has the best stereo, listen to different tunes, and we talk about random stuff (I'm not oblivious to how special this is). On Saturday, I asked her if she still listens to Taylor Swift, no, she's grown tired of TS, she liked some of the older stuff, but in her opinion this new stuff is terribly written, she thinks it just awful, and especially given TS's age and experience.
  5. One of my better workshop "hacks", I find cotton swabs to be handy for cleaning all sorts of small things, and it's nice to have them in reach, and available with just one hand: cut a lower corner out of the clear plastic top Q tip box, hang it from a nail on your wall = one hand q tip access
  6. good suggestion, this is much safer
  7. tired of hauling that heavy 4x12 around?
  8. are you thinking what I'm thinking??
  9. If DR reissues are so great, how come there are so many for sale all the time?
  10. or just put screw-in hanger-hook on there, and hang it up anywhere
  11. inspiration from a craigslist ad: tired of your bass falling over when you lean it up against the wall? simply install two rubber amp feet!
  12. spotted just now in a for sale ad on craigslist
  13. "play it wrong twice, it's jazz" A good local jazz singer recently explained during a show that "Jazz is a Verb"
  14. ha ha!, but no, it wasn't him, he was very sharp when it comes to that sort of thing. I need to reconnect with him, I don't think he has posted here in some time.
  15. !!! this happened!!! I was doing sound ages ago, and some kid/guy was playing, his mom or girlfriend or somebody complained to me more than once about how terrible the guys tone was "it never sounds like this!, what are you doing??", - it turned out his wah was on in some terrible sounding position. I had completely forgotten about that until now.
  16. I played my Kubicki Factor bass in the church band a couple of weeks ago. The following week a woman (in her 40s) asked what instrument I was playing the week prior? (she didn't recognize it as a bass guitar). The week after, two of the teenage boys who are into guitar/bass asked me how there can be a bass that doesn't need to be tuned? (no tuners on the headstock is where I understood their confusion came from)
  17. that's not really all that far off from Victor Wooten's thoughts on improvising
  18. my neighbor plays drums at odd hours during the day, mostly. But there was a 2am session about a year ago in the summer when his wife was out of town, this is a quiet residential city street with mostly smallish older single family homes. Somebody called the cops, he didn't answer the door for them. He's not a terrible drummer, so that's a plus. So I often think of this joke when I hear him playing, or this one ( very short version): An explorer (coincidentally named Gibson) goes to a remote tropical island, and notices that there are always drums playing from somewhere off in the distance, asks a local "do the drums ever stop??" Local says "very-very bad when drums stop", eventually the drums stop and the locals run around in a panic "oh no!! bass solo!!!"
  19. this is my only Robin (not for sale). I do have a 'the one that got away' story: when I first started pawn shopping about 25 years ago, I clearly remember a very pointy headstock Robin with a single hum, no sure about the trem, nothing fancy, for just over $100 "what is that??", I didn't buy it, and it didn't last long enough for me to change my mind.
  20. apparently 4 is enough on a guitar on occasion
  21. Mac&Me was an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3k, - I'm not really recommending anyone watch it.
  22. probably posted somewhere previously, worth a repost
  23. Very nice, and inspiring! I've been a member of the Porsche club for nearly 20 years, I've never heard anything but Por-shu, a lot of these people visit the factory do other fancy stuff. the Walther comment reminds me of a joke told in my extended family: Sven was walking down the street and saw a guy carrying a long pole coming towards him, Sven asked the man; "are you a pole-vaulter?" the other guy answered "no, I'm a Svede, but how did you know my name vas Valter?"
