  1. I have always loved their music, I think it's Unleded that is early best cd?, I have spun the heck out of that one. I have a dvd of a show somewhere in the Midwest, on a rainy day, I'll have to look around for that one too. The Christmas cd is a little thin, but has some enjoyable bits. Yes, Un-Led-Ed is by far my favorite one, from 1990. If you're into this sort of thing with that sort of sense of humor, Un-Led-Ed is a sure thing, it's very well done. As you may know, Elvis came to Tortelvis in a vision, and told him to play Led Zeppelin songs as an Elvis impersonator, but in a Reggae style.
  2. I've got a '76 P with the Jazz width neck. I always seem to reach for a bass with a bridge pickup, my favorite 4 strings are my '83 Ibanez RoadstarII deluxe (RB924) and my late '80s Robin USA ranger. horrible picture, but here's the ranger with a cowpoke visitor Oh, the BC Rich Eagle is cool too, TWO P pickups! and the '70s Yamahas are killer too. don't forget the Chaparral
  3. I've got this one, a '71 SVT, a '72 VT40, '66 and '72 B15Ns (the 72 B15 I got from somebody here a few years ago). I sold that V4 I had a short time ago, electrically it was not quite up to my standards. So 'only' 5 Ampegs right now. I'm playing this B25 through a recent GK bass Neo 2x12, it's not super loud, but louder than most combos I've owned, and very portable, good volume to portability ratio. Loud enough for me these days. I've had a few other vintage tube heads; dual showman, bassman 50s, V4s (but never a V4B), - this B25 is really great for bass, one of the best tones I've heard. Yeah, it's around 50 watts; two 7027s (it will run 6L6GCs), with a 5AR4/GZ34 rectifier.
  4. I've been keeping an eye out for one of these for a while, this was a good price but needed a little maintenance. Great sounding little bass head.
  5. I used to do retail, if someone was looking at something and hung it back up, I would damn sure check how it was re-hung as soon as they were gone. I'm sure a similar call to any of my customers would have basically been seen as an invitation to not shop at my store anymore. The store employee is there to see that the inventory is properly displayed, or is does his job description say something else?
  6. I had a few very good gear buys, but not like years past, the highlight buys of the year were: '70 SVT & '89 JEM, - I didn't buy a single Hamer all year. I'm pleased that my job chugged along just fine (residential real estate appraisal), it didn't get any easier than previous years, but it's still a pretty good job. I'm most pleased that I started riding my bicycles again in August, and have been mtn biking regularly since, dropped another 10 pounds or so, and I'm feeling sort of fit again, -it's been a long time. Finding some decent trails in the un-maintained city park near my house was the key, I can be gone for an hour and do a pretty hard mtn bike ride, it's got several steep hills to get the heart going. My new trail is nearing completion, and will make it a significantly better place to ride.
  7. Wow,I'm so sorry to hear that. You have my condolensces. -Jim
  8. anybody posted this fyi yet?, this is very cool! (not mine): "Beautiful Hamer Phantom 6-string guitar with Kahler tremolo and locking bridge, candy-apple "Rose Pearl" red. This is a piece of Seattle rock-n-roll history! (Hamer guitars were a favorite of Jethro Tull, Heart, and other bands from the 1970s and 1980s.) I've had this guitar since 1988, but cannot play due to wrist injury. I have the original receipt from the Hamer factory - it has Howard Leese's name (the main guitarist from the band Heart, and lately of the Paul Rodgers (Bad Company) Band, and lists the serial number 27488, the color and the Hamer case. Comes with whammy bar, hex key/allen wrench for locking the bridge down, original receipt for the amount of $494.90 from the Hamer factory showroom in Illinois, and Hamer case. Slight ding on bottom, slight scratches where Howard's belt buckles rubbed lightly on the body, they don't show on pictures. Frets have virtually no wear, and it stays in perfect tune for years if you lock the bridge. Has a truss rod through the neck for adjusting and keeping true. Cash only, or will consider trade for quality 5-string banjo" linkage: http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/msg/2751874102.html
  9. If I had the power, I'd ban 'one in one out'. I've got that one's twin, -super cool 5ers! That is a helluva bass for $700.
  10. I've always believed that if you're asking your mains to do less (less lows), they will be able to do better what you are asking them to do. If it were me, if I were adding a sub to my powered mains on my small rig, I'd go the rack crossover route. Some of the newer QSC amps have built in crossovers so that you can run subs and mains off one amp, I think it's at about 100hz, - am I the only one that thinks the 150hz on your Peavey is a little high for a fixed crossover?
  11. As much as I don't like to recommend Behringer, we've had great luck with the all-in-one (crossover, protection, time delay, eq) Ultradrive Pro. It's a single space rack unit, 2 ins, 4 outs, I think of it as a crossover, but it does quite a bit more. My pro audio buddy set it up for our system (plugged it into his laptop for 'quicker' setup), I don't think I could have done it myself. Lots of other companies make all-in-ones, and there's probably better units out now, this one being about 4 or 5 years old. If you want to keep it simple, and do it yourself, I'd probably go with the dbx or a Rane rack crossover, but it's hard to argue with what sounded very good last time. Do you run your speaker send cables through the sub amp?, and are they affected by the 150hz crossover? It might be nice to have a 'standard' crossover, that you can dial in a little better, especially if you're sending full-range to your mains. What does a good used dbx/rane cost?, about $100 these days?
  12. Wow! very nice!
  13. My old bandleader used one a lot, a real '62 strat through it. He swore by having a V30 in there. It did sound really good.
  14. I don't think the Princeton Reverbs changed a lot over the years, but I think that's in the upper end of the value range for that year with a non-original speaker. I'd want to see a fresh service including Sprague caps, and premium tubes for that price. IMO, $500 would be a very good deal, $600 would be more fair. It wasn't that long ago that I bought my '76 Deluxe Reverb for a little less off Craigs. I had a '73-ish PR, to my ears they do some odd distortion when pushed, something a DR doesn't do. The DR is way more complex and 3D sounding. I dunno, for $700 you've got some real options, there's been a DRII on Craigs for similar price recently. I haven't played one of these, but this looks neat (Rivera R55 on Seattle Craigs) http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/msg/2238309587.html
  15. I sold one of those combos for my friend, -that's a neat little amp, great price too!
  16. Mine had '64 Patent-Numbers, those were sweeeet pickups in that guitar. I'll vote for those.
  17. I found a pic of the one I had
  18. Very cool! I used to have a '64 175D, those are great guitars, better for classic rock than most might think.
  19. I was told EH tubes are built the same place as the Sovteks now? Morningstar: I think Gale at Puget Sound Organ has a LOT of good used vintage 6V6s. He's on South 12th in Tacoma, about halfway between Sprague and Union. Last time I bought used 6V6s from him, I think they were about $15 ea. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's still got some black glass RCAs. That's a fun place to go see, he's got SO much stuff in there. I'm running old Westinghouse 6V6s in my Silverface DR, those are pretty dreamy.
  20. I use Griots Garage fine hand polish, it's a car paint product. It's safe for xmillion dollar Ferrari's, so I feel ok using it on a $1500 les paul. It works great getting swirls out of the paint, and it's great for getting that fore-arm dirt-crap off the upper part of the guitar body. I put a dab on a 2" cotton square, and usually just loosen the strings to push them off to the side. Highly recommended stuff, I've been using the same bottle for 15 years now, it's halfway full. I use it on my car once in a while too. http://www.griotsgarage.com/category/car+c...car+polishes.do
  21. Here's to a speedy and full recovery!
  22. My friend has a '76 Takamine (F340S?) I think he's going to put up for sale sometime soon, I think he would probably ship it. I believe it's a 'regular' dreadnought. It has a solid top, but no electronics, LR Baggs systems can be purchased and installed for under $200. I can ask him for you if it sounds interesting, I'm guessing $400-ish, but I'd have to ask.
  23. Takamines always sound good to me, even the newer upper end Korean models. I do sound for various randon little bands, it seems that the Takamines are generally super easy to get a good sound out of the PA with. I just got a lower end Larivee D, I was going to flip it, but it got a huge low-end punch, and it just sounds fantastic all around. My tech had to do a lot of work to it, it had been badly abused, - it really stood out to him as a great guitar too. He tells me Larivee's are built in the Martin tradition, with exceptional wood choices. I'll add an LR Baggs I-beam to it one of these days. I sold my other 'keeper' and kept the Larivee.
