  1. I've been lucky enough to visit with Don at his house and play several of his guitars on a wonderful Saturday afternoon a few weeks ago. He's an amazingly nice guy with some amazingly nice gear. If anything looks good to you; jump on it. Conor
  2. Very nice looking. My Monaco Elite is also Tobacco Burst and I'm quite fond of the finish as well. Congrats! conorb
  3. I guess we'll have to come up with more than 10 "righteous" guitars conorb
  4. Damn, what's that? I've seen a black transparent Standard Custom trade on ebay two or three years ago that was setup up with gold hardware. It looked tremendously nice. Mini humbuckers are a great spot too. How do you switch them? That looks like one of the run of Standards Wilcutts had commissioned - so if it is, those pups aren't minis, they're Lollar Firebird pups unless I'm mistaken. The trans black top is killer. The guitar is indeed one of the Standard Customs made for Wilcutts; I purchased it from them late last year. From their website: "The Standard Customs are part of a special 5 guitar run commissioned by Willcutt Guitars. This Standard Custom features an Ultimate Grade flame maple top, ebony fingerboard with custom Victory inlays, and custom Jason Lollar Firebird pickups with custom wiring. These guitars are fully chambered with an "X" brace pattern that really opens up the sound. The electronics include a blend pot for the middle position and a ToneStyler 16 position tone pot." The switching is fairly normal for up = neck, down = bridge, middle = both with the middle knob acting as a blender pot for the middle pickup. So the middle pu can be mixed into any switching variation by using the blender knob. The ToneStyler takes a bit to get used to but it acts as a discreet tone control at any one of the 16 positions within the pot. Sorry, I didn't see this before as I would've answered sooner. conorb
  5. That's definitely a birthday he's going to remember. For a long time. conorb
  6. Congratulations; I hope you'll both be very happy. conorb
  7. I saw them two weekends ago in Tacoma; they were awesome. It was really fantastic and a definite highlight for me. During Eddie's solo I was mesmerized by his playing and skill. I remember reading that when they were starting out that David would tell Eddie to turn around so that other guitarists couldn't cop his licks; well if someone gave me the tape of his playing and the close-up video of both hands - in slow-motion - and I studied it for the rest of my life; there is no way I would ever be able to do that. I'm listening to the new album right now; just picked it up today. I hope they get back on track soon. It was an absolute treat to watch DLR and Eddy on stage together. A watershed moment. conorb
  8. Mr. Mom. doofuss Well, at least I got points. conorb
  9. I'm in on the $25.00/$30.00 and a raffle; whatever. The Ace of Spades sounds like a good idea as well. 220, 221, whatever it takes. conorb
  10. That's an amazing looking guitar. Congrats! conorb
  11. I guess I'm partial to my Standard Custom. Of course, that's just me. conorb
  12. Holy Cow. That's really cool. Congrats. conorb
  13. Both BCC albums are really good. Bonamassa, Glen, Derek, and Jason have got something really nice going on. The albums just rock 70's style. conorb
  14. Great story told by really cool people. Is there still a way to donate to the reimbursement fund? conorb
  15. Here are mine. The cream/yellow one I purchased new in 94/95 - the first guitar I ever bought. The sunburst Daytona I bought from the local Hamer dealer after he played it as his personal guitar for 6 months or so. He added the pearloid pickguard and the hot rails pickup in the bridge position. He set it up that way for the blues/rock stuff he was playing. conorb
  16. Gold knobs? WTF? I actually like the knobs like that. I guess that's why they make chocolate and vanilla. conorb
  17. The neck on my Monaco Elite is pretty much perfect but I've found that I'm not too bothered by different neck sizes in general. It probably helps that I really don't play all that well anyway. Still, the description on the Magnificent 7's just says "custom neck carve" which could mean anything really. conorb Yeah, I'm not sure why I think it's bigger; I think I may have emailed them about it many moons ago? Doesn't matter anyway, the wallet says no! - Austin I agree with the wallet assessment but it's going to be tough to pass on a Mag 7 in the long term. I think I will call them back tomorrow and see if I can get some additional information on the neck carve in general and specific pricing. conorb

  19. I really want one of the Magnificent 7 guitars. I called and talked to them a few weeks ago but was waiting on my finances becoming a little stronger before calling back and getting one. Maybe I should call and see what they're willing to get them out the door for - I wouldn't mind waiting a bit longer, but I don't want to miss out on a nice guitar either. conorb
