When I saw David Cassidy in concert flash photography was forbidden. Someone was taking a picture of him with a flash, so a security guard was stopping the girl with the camera. David was behind the security guard trying to tell her it was OK and the people at my table were trying to tell the security guard that David was saying it was OK. He may have issues, but he was a nice guy that night. He did brush his hair back quite a lot like in the TV show.

I grew up with that song and all the rest of the Partridge Family fun! I even went to see David Cassidy perform many of those old songs a few years ago. The Partridge Family albums were being re-released on CD, but David Cassidy put an end to that. He said he did not mind the albums being reissued as long as they did not use his likeness or his voice on them. It has to do with the contracts that were signed 37 years ago. Album sales and airplay made big bucks for everyone except David Cassidy. When he gets what he feels is a proper share of the money (never) he will endorse those old albums.

Jazzbox or Semi-Hollow for Rock?
Steve Haynie replied to Halowords's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
The H-575 is totally hollow. You will have a tough time avoiding feedback with that one. It is nothing like a Gibson Byrdland, so do not think about using it for Ted Nugent tunes even though you can try. The H-535 is like a Gibson ES-335, not totally hollow, and a little more rock friendly. -
Better yet-- Buy the guitar and then eBay it again with a line or two about how the guitar was expertly repaired by Greg Platzer. The price on that guitar is going to be stupidly high for such a trashed piece of junk. I guess it has an old but stable repair.

Favorite bands that went nowhere, dept.
Steve Haynie replied to BCR Greg's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I have been listening to these guys online from their web site since I read your post a little while ago. The songs are too good to just sample, so I have been playing them in their entirety. -
Favorite bands that went nowhere, dept.

Riot never went anywhere despite putting out some great albums. I think it had to do with the change from hard rock to heavy metal that was happening in the early 80's. -
When was Paul in Charlotte? Details, please!

A rare Sedaka interview... -
I heard KISS and went out and bought a bunch of KISS T-shirts, KISS belt buckles, KISS trading cards, KISS posters, KISS songbooks, KISS guitars, KISS furniture, KISS farm implements, KISS vacuum cleaners, KISS wading pools, KISS health insurance, KISS tires, KISS handtrucks, KISS cola, KISS bubble wrap, KISS doorknobs, and then I bought my second KISS album.

I have seen cracked ebony, but never cracked rosewood. There are times that I have noticed ebony not feeling as smooth as it should, causing my fingers to drag a little. I think that may have something to do with my playing, but it could have something to do with caring for the ebony board. Has anyone here heard of using bore oil to treat a fretboard? It is the stuff that woodwinds players use on their clarinets and such.
-
I like both, but I would prefer rosewood on a set-neck guitar. I prefer maple fretboards on bolt-on neck basses. Ebony would be my choice for a set-neck bass. The harder feel or spank is what I like.

For what it is worth, I saw Charlie Daniels in 1982 and 2007 using Boogie combos on stage. When you think of Mesa Boogie Charlie Daniels is not the first guy you think of, but he is loyal to those amps. How's that for versatility?
-
I bought a Studio .22 in 1986 that I have no intention of selling. It sounds like a Boogie no matter what I do with it, but it is a good sounding amp. A lot of tubes go microphonic, though.

8-String Chap Bass on talkbass
Steve Haynie replied to lonote049's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Knowing what I paid for my 8 string Chaparral bass in 1995 and what it would cost to have that green bass built, the price is reasonable. If I could afford it I would take it. Yes, used Hamers go for less, but try to have one built and buy it for $2200. -

When do we hit ten years of the HFC?
Steve Haynie replied to Steve Haynie's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
So, do we want to plan a "Half-A-Twenty" celebration? If not at the Hamer factory, where? We already have regional jams. What would we do to make the 10th anniversary special? -

When do we hit ten years of the HFC?
Steve Haynie replied to Steve Haynie's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Steve, I found the HFC from a link on the official Hamer website. I really think I showed up in February 1998 or earlier. It was definitely over six months before the first HFC event that year. The whole idea was just a thread here that started after I had been around for a while. We are coming up on a tenth anniversary during this year, but the question is when. -
I got a computer at the end of April, 1997 and went online about ten years ago this month. I discovered the HFC by the beginning of 1998, maybe February. Exactly when did this website go up, and when did the forum start?

Smoking ban coming - giggers opinions?
Steve Haynie replied to Zoner's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
When I was in California in 1998 for a tour of the Ernie Ball factory we were taken to a bar to see Albert Lee play. All the smokers were standing outside the door on the sidewalk creating a smoke cloud that people had to pass through to enter. In the 1980's there was an entrepeneur in Atlanta who opened the city's first non-smoking bar. I cannot stand cigarette smoke, but... No one is dragged into a bar. Bar owners do not hire thugs to drag people inside. Everyone enters on their own. If the smoke bothers someone, they should stay away. If someone wants to offer a smoke free bar, let them do it on their own. People who invest in a business are the ones who should make decisions on what behavior is acceptable within their establishments. If I wanted to open a "Smoke a Guitar/Tune a Cigar" shop where everyone is expected to smoke while looking at guitars that would be my business decision. Obviously non-smokers would likely stay away, but it would be MY investment on the line. What if someone wants to start a smokers' club somewhere? Just having a place for people to sit around smoking anything that is legal would be test of our rights. -
