It's really not that complicated Custom = Ceramic magnet Custom Custom = Alnico 2 magnet Custom 5 (which was basically created due to response by SD forum users using it even though I believe this is the Custom Custom Custom that Godin used in some of their guitars for a while) = Alnico 5 And of course people have thrown Alnico 4 and 8 magnets into Customs as well although this doesn't seem to be as popular. - Austin

So I was taking the pickups out of my Studio to swap them with something else (which didn't end up happening, but that's another story) and it turns out that what I thought was a 59 bridge is actually a Custom Custom!! Now the fact that it's almost as hot as the Aldrich pickup in my other Studio makes sense! This is doubly embarassing because I was ripping on someone a month or 2 back for being clueless enough to confusing a hot SD bridge pickup with a 59 model! Anyway, the 59/CC combo works so much better than the 59/JB combo (which I've played in a couple other guits) it's not funny! -Austin

That's a looker! Great pics! -Austin -
Was there a jam that year? That would have been awesome! -Austin

I have no problem at all with Hamer getting rid of crowns in favor of victory inlays, but I think it's horrible that they won't do boomers since those are a Hamer original. On the other hand, I can see why they would do that since they don't fit with their image and, more importantly, boomers have been, to a large extent, ruined by being put on so many import Hamers. -Austin

I'm going to have to agree with you there! -Austin

Now that is ridiculous! -Austin

I like em on Studios also. Agree that Victories might look a bit odd on a Standard. Have always thought that parallelogram inlays that match the body's angle direction would be kinda cool. Personally, I think Boomers look sweet on both Standards and Vectors due to the body angles, but I guess that's just me. -Austin

Hmm, I'm kind of surprised they didn't do this right after they came up with the Victory inlays. Victories look surprisingly sweet on my Studio, but I still think they look a bit funny on Standards and Vectors. -Austin

Guitar Center was purchased this month by Bain Capital for $2,100,000,000.00 with over 200 stores as well as Musicians Friend and other subsidiaries. Are you talking about the Gretsch Spectrasonics? Hamer built the limited runs of those several years ago. I hadn't heard anything about Guilds... My brain storage capacity isn't what it once was so maybe it was Gretsch. Either way, Fender will now have a way to build USA guitars under the Guild and Gretsch banners without the upwards of 10K list pricing. How about a USA built Guild or Gretsch at the same price as the Japanese built Gretsch models? Sounds like a winning formula to me. That is if they don't gut Hamer the way they did Guild. Where would Hamer be building these guitars? Aren't they running their current plant at full capacity? If they have to hire a bunch of new people and build these speculative Gretsch guitars somewhere else, it's really not going to be Hamer building them at all. -Austin

Jaye, I have a Suhr Doug Aldrich set in my amberburst Studio. Great pickups! -Austin

Amberburst's o.k. I guess... Very nice top on yours. Lots of personality. -Austin

All Fender needs to make the purchase to add value for them, is to maintain the quality, but make the guitars appealing. Given their huge backlog, I would say Hamer guitars are already appealing... -Austin
-
Uh-Oh! Hopefully Fender will leave the Hamer USA line alone and just focus on the import stuff instead of strip-mining the brand. Time will tell, but I too am glad I already got my custom order out of the way. -Austin

No help with the input jack, but I'll definitely pile on with the 59's. After taking a few days to get used to them in my Studio Custom, I'm very impressed. I've played the 59 neck in a few guitars and always thought it was muddy, but for some reason, the 59 set really works here and the bridge is especially nice; more powerful than I would have expected given the resistance reading. -Austin

The silver purfling on the Artist Anniversary LTD's is awesome. Much classier than the ultimate purfling IMO. Too bad they only came in red ! -Austin -

Word. In other news, that DGT sounds like the near-perfect PRS. It's a good thing I can't deal with the regular neck shape (or can I ). -Austin -
Thank god somebody bought that; my trigger finger was getting itchy! -Austin
