  1. I almost don't see how the winning bidder (or most of the bidders for that matter) couldn't be an HFC'er. I mean who else would be willing to spend that much for the guitar. Given the bidding history for the auction, I believe the winning bid is for real. -Austin
  2. Holy Crap! I was bidder 1. If I was willing to spend that much for a set-neck Cali, I would have ordered a Watson with a Floyd a couple months ago. As I was saying to JustKid a few days ago, I predict there will be alot of setneck Cali's for sale very soon (hopefully at a bit lower price though!). -Austin
  3. +1 For example, I believe the purple reverse-headstock Cali Elite run Hamer did all have tone knobs. -Austin
  4. Yes it was. And of course, the day it arrived, the Cali auction started . It's a very cool guitar with some neat custom options (ebony fretboard and a satin finish neck). At any rate, if I need to sell it, I'll keep you in mind. - Austin
  5. Where's the fainting smiley? :)
  6. Hmm, I don't remember seeing that one, but other than the binding, I like everything about the current one more. There was a typical white one from a seller in Russia that went for 2.5K a while back, and before that there was a pseudo-Cali that would have broken 2K if not for the ludicrous custom-ordered control placement (although I still kind of kick myself for not going for that one; who knows, maybe the controls were actually perfectly placed ) So yeah, I'm thinking this one might end up making my Studio Custom look cheap (ouch!) by the time the auction is over.
  7. I just need to clean it up and take some decent pics this weekend and it will be on the block. You'll be the first to know. - Austin
  8. I just posted a topic on this! http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18362 It's very possible that all my guitars but the Studio and Mirage will be on sale in a week.
  9. Those that watch eBay obsessively know what I'm talking about. Anyone want to buy a few of my guitars (including the fabulous Diablo II I just received today)? Seriously.
  10. Happy Birthday youz guyz! -Austin
  11. Glad you enjoyed your birthday Ted. -Austin
  12. Late Happy Birthday wishes from me! -Austin
  13. I think it's still in a case somewhere. What's the dealio?
  14. Dammit! Well, better safe than sorry -Austin
  15. O.k., so it looks like UPS left a guitar outside at my place. By the time my wife gets home and brings it inside, it will have been outside for a few hours. So, how long should I let the guitar warm up before 1) taking it out of the box and 2) taking it out of the case. It's a Jackson Soloist by the way; I'm pretty positive they use Poly finishes. So maybe I can just take it out right away? -Austin
  16. Exactly my point! Are people like that reading Rolling Stone? There are tons of awesome guitarists out there, I just didn't know Derek Trucks had the sort of appeal to get onto the cover of Rolling Stone (as opposed to say, Guitar Player). Musical ability might be an element that goes into being a guitar hero, but I don't even know that it's the main ingredient. I mean look at Ace Frehley! Austin
  17. I think the holy grail PAF-tone thing is purely age-related. Being a child of the 80's (musically-speaking) there are plenty of PAF tones that I like, but they certainly aren't ideal for me. Now, as far as your question goes, I've always wondered about that as well. Wouldn't the ultimate PAF set be non-calibrated (neck and bridge pickups the same)? However, maybe if someone wants want a PAF neck tone like "X" and a bridge PAF tone like "Y" and they don't want to have to completely change their setup to achieve it, the best thing would be to get a calibrated set with, say, a slightly hotter, thicker, bridge pickup and a lower-output neck pickup. Seems to make sense to me. -Austin
  18. I'm a pretty big John Mayer fan, but I don't know if I'd call him a guitar hero. Still, in terms of being someone who inspires lots of folks to pickup a guitar, I guess I could see him and Frusciante as being guitar heroes (although I've never really though JF was anything particularly special). Of course by that standard, Kurt Cobain's a guitar hero. And what's with Derek Trucks? He might be a monster player, but I don't know that he has enough mass appeal among younger folks to be labelled as a guitar hero. I guess he's RS's attempt to appeal to their "musical elite" readers? -Austin
  19. 1. Look close, the route "ramps" down into the body. Usually a level route for a recessed floyd. very cool detail. 2. I wanted to be sure when I ordered, my request, that the Floyd would be the same height as in relation as if there was a Tom bridge. I do not care for close strings to the top side of body. 3. Actually Mahogany with a rosewood board. 4. zebra Duncan 59' neck, zebra duncan JB trem spaced bridge, NO LOGOS inbossed. ( a trem JB sounds like the JB's from the way past... well usually,) 5 string setup~ 11 thru 46. 6 its on its way to the dealer today Cool specs! As far as the route goes, I think that's how Hamer does all of them. The Floyd routes on my Studio, the few Californians I've had, the Diablo and the Chap are all slanted into the body like that. It's a nice design; you get to see the wood (no silly rubber pad) and still have plenty of range on the Floyd. That guitar should be killer! -Austin
  20. That looks sweet! It's interesting to see the difference in thickness between maples tops on the Standard versus my Studio (the route looks the same, but in my studio, it doesn't go through the maple to the mahogany beneath). I didn't say anything about the neck angle when I ordered my Studio, so I don't know what they did (whatever they did, it feels good to me!). Did you go with a maple neck or a mahogany one? And what type of custom pickups did you spec out (or do you mean it has 2 Duncan Customs )? -Austin
  21. That half-time show was good stuff! I thought one of his dancers was gonna do a face-plant somewhere in there for sure, but everyone pulled it off.
  22. Hmm, strangely I didn't start paying any attention to gear until several years after I started playing. There are lots of guitarists I idolize, but I don't really have any sort of nostalgic attachment to the gear they played. Good news for my wallet I guess. Austin

  24. What're those? -Austin
  25. What you did wrong was not telling the guy to f*ck off in the first place in my opinion . Also, I don't see how the fact that you weren't paid right away should entitle you to delay paying for an item you won in another auction? As far as I'm concerned, you shouldn't bid on something if you can't pay for it as soon as the auction is completed, be it a regular auction or a buy-it-now situation, but that's just me. -Austin
