  1. Modern medicine and prayers are an awesome combination. I can't help with the first part but the second part has been sent, please keep us posted.
  2. Used a couple old road cases for the first time in many years last weekend, but found the interior foam was mostly disintegrated. Any recommendations for replacement foam? Where do I get it?
  3. I had a Czech Dean Cadillac that is really well made. Hog body, carved maple cap, wide neck with ebony board. My son has it now, his name is Dean...
  4. I'm not doing anything with the headstock "repair" other than cut off the Frankenstein bolts. I would love to be able to do a full restoration but that's not in the budget or time frame. For now it just gets a logo if I can get one.
  5. My current project is to get this 1980 Special back into playable condition. It was used and abused by a touring band in the early eighties and it shows. Crimes were committed, some would say it's not worth saving but my buddy wants to play it again. In defense of the roadies who worked on it, they did what they had to do to get to the next show. Long-term consequences were never part of the equation. These are the before pictures, I've now disassembled it and leveled and dressed the frets. Cleaning and electronics are next. I would love to surprise Gary with a proper Hamer logo on the headstock. Where can I get one? It has to be black for obvious reasons.
  6. I use an automotive feeler guage and go for .010 to .012 inches (ten to twelve thousandths) for the space between the the top of the first fret and the bottom of the first string. More clearance for the heavier strings, up to .020 for the low E.
  7. I'm still laughing at "vegetesbian". Not that there's anything wrong with that.
  8. These threads are extra awesome when its your own project that shows up. I highly recommend it.
  9. SHT. Perfect. Reminds me of the two word review of Spinal Tap's Shark Sandwich: "Sh!t sandwich."
  10. GTR, with Steve Howe and Steve Hacket (or Buddy Hacket or something like that). The name of the band was the abbreviation for guitar, for crying out loud. It had to be good! I don't remember if I got all the way through it, but I know I never listened again. And a second vote for Passion and Warfare. Another one that never got a second listen.
  11. From a pure energy consumption standpoint, it cost you a lot more to heat that hot dog on the stove than it did in the microwave. The stovetop has a large resistive heating element that was on for five minutes. The microwave, even if it used more energy (and it doesn't), was only on for 30 sec. Now look at the circuit breakers in your main panel that these appliances are connected to. The oven/range is on a 40, 50 or 60 amp double pole (240 volt) breaker because it needs that much power. It may be the lagest energy load in your house when it is on. The microwave is on a basic 15 or 20 amp single pole (120 volt) household circuit. That's all the power it needs, and for a much shorter period of time.
  12. I say make it a sticky and be done with it.
  13. Yep - nothing like a heavy dose of perspective. "Too much f***ing perspective." - David St.Hubbins
  14. I just finished watching and loved every minute, but I could have gone without seeing the string of drool hanging off Gene's chin after Lick it Up. One of things I wish I could un-see.
  15. Had a beer with Billy Powell (Lynyrd Skynyrd) in the Nashville airport about a year before he died. I always thought his piano parts were tasteful compliments to their songs, and he was a great guy to talk to to boot. He was getting loaded before he had to get on that plane...
  16. I have a Princeton Reverb II I bought new in 1982 and its not going anywhere. It was the only amp I had for years, worked with several different bands. The stock speaker (Eminence I think) has been replaced with a vintage Jensen. I also did a couple of minor DIY mods from Dan Torres. There's a guy in GB with a whole website dedicated to this amp, and some other Rivera Fenders are mentioned. http://www.stratopastor.org.uk/strato/amps...i/PRII_hub.html I also have a Twin Reverb II head that I haven't used much, soon going to ebay. Great, unbelievably loud cleans but more amp than I need right now. The PR II OD has tons of mid available with the pull-out mid boost. Having never owned a Boogie, I can't compare, but its different from any other amp I've owned. I don't think you'll be sorry if you try one out.
  17. You guys rock. Thank you for the help. I borrowed a reamer from the tool room at work and the holes opened up clean and purty.
  18. Anything would be better than what was in the guitar. I figured I have Dimarzio pickups so I'll use their pots, even though they were kind of pricey. And they were the only pull pots at Musician's Friend. Maybe I should ask you guys for a good source....
  19. I'm replacing all the cheap pots in an Epiphone with Dimarzio parts and the new pots have a larger diameter shaft. Any suggestions for opening up the holes in the guitar without really messing things up?
