SOLD! Baker B3 'Phoenix' guitar - Doghair Black Very cool Gene Baker - B3 'Phoenix' model in Doghair black finish. Kind of mix of Firebird and Tele. Mahogany set-neck with raised center section, like a Firebird. Great weight @ 7lbs, 7oz. Medium C neck. I had it Plek'd about 6 months ago, so it plays like 'butta' - haha. Originally came with 3 Duncan Mini-hums (Included in the case) I installed 3 D'Ubano Firebird pickups to give an authentic Firebird snarl. 5 Way switch & Tone Push-pull to add Bridge to any setting for total of 7 tones. Buzz Feiten Tuning system. Chatting with Gene Baker, he said this is a very rare guitar with the 3 pickups instead of the usual Phoenix's with 2. Super comfy to play with a nice Tummy-cut and sculpted neck joint. I've got more pics if you want. Comes with case candy and a super-nice original hardshell case. $2,700 shipped/Paypal'd (A PP F&F would be great if you know me - thx) Not interested in any trades on this one Message me with any questions - ernie

"Gibson reintroducing the '70s Les Paul Custom"
santellavision replied to Dave Scepter's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Here's my '73 Gibson Les Paul Custom. I got it as a gift from my dad in 1973. I still have it! Yeah, It's definitely not the same now - haha. Been through a million changes. Here's the story... It went through some crazy mods. First, I swapped out the pickups for 2 DiMarzio Super Distortion pickups. My dad drove me to Staten Island, NY and I went to Larry Dimarzio's house where he was selling them out of his basement!! I later added a middle PU a'la Peter Frampton. I then added an MXR Phase 90 inside the control cavity (Yeah, it actually fit) Added Grovers too (still on there) I stripped it down to natural like Mick Ronson and filled in the maple top and took out the middle PU. Kept it like that for a long time. It was a pretty nice sounding guitar! Under 10lbs too. I then decided to fix her up. I sent it to a luthier to completely grind off the maple top and 're-top' it with a Spalted Maple top. Recently, I added some custom-wound Gravelin pickups and 3rd refret by RS Guitarworks to Medium Jumbos. The only part still original is the tailpiece. Weird, but it's Super lightweight and actually makes a big difference in tone. I tried two other gold tailpieces and they didn't sound nearly as good, lightweight really made a difference. Here's a current pic I used for my CD insert on my album. Lastly, I made a nice truss cover to remind me of my dad.- 42 replies

No, I haven't, but I have heard some great clips of it. I'm sure I would dig it. There's just something about all of Reinhold's pre-amp designs, they just sound great.

Not sure if you peeps have seen the out-takes on the original Spinal Tap DVD/Bluray disc? OMG, there's about an hour of incredible extra scenes, just as funny as the original movie.
-
It's just silly humor and lots of musical jokes that musicians get that the average film reviewer wouldn't understand. It's not the 'Godfather' or '2001'. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now, I have to get this t-shirt.

No spoilers here, just fun chat. Just watched the latest Spinal Tap II. Just great. Laughed the entire time. Some cool axes in the movie. Christopher Guest plays a ton of different MusicMan and Ibanez guitars. Michael McKean pretty much plays a single PRS the whole time. And two funny scenes with Guest about his pedal board, like the old 'Goes to 11' thing. I really enjoyed it. We chatted after and I must have missed a ton of funny shit as a friend said, "did you see this and that" and I say, no, I missed it and they missed stuff I caught. There is a TON of subtle signage and quick bits that you really have to watch it a few times to catch it all. And, watch it all the way, there's some funny interview stuff at the end too. Can't wait till it comes out to rent.

Yeah, that was my thread. If you have any questions about Bogners, I'd be more than happy to try to help!

Quilter Back-up Surprise
santellavision replied to BoogieMKIIA's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I'm also a big fan of Quilter stuff. I've had a bunch over the years. My fav is the older Overdrive 200. It just has some nice magic inside. The SB UK also rocks. -
Good luck with the sale. These are great playing and sounding guitars! Here's a great video comparing the PRS SE Silver Sky to some vintage Fenders.

Experience with Tone King imperial pre-amp?
santellavision replied to Gabe's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I pre-ordered it and got it early. Love it. I'm using it to record most of the guitars on my new album. It just 'feels' and sounds as good as any of my tube amps mic'd. You can't tell the difference, even with critical listening. Not using the on-board reverb for recording, but just jamming, works nice with dwell time and level. The tremolo in stereo is great too. I'm just running the XLR outs to my UA Apollo interface. The on-board IRs are very nice. I have also been messing with a few other Cab files I have. Easy interface to change them out. It's a great box and I give it a solid recommendation. Check out Pete Thorn's video: -
WTB 70's Hiwatt Dr103
santellavision replied to Cboss's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
Or get one of these Red Seven EVO units to tame that beast! I just got one of these and it's the bomb. Sounds spectacular to record amps. Has 2 simultaneous cab IR's, Mics, Gate, Power amp sims and easily connects by Bluetooth. Steve Stevens is using a couple on tour right now. Here's a cool rig rundown out there. -

santellavision replied to santellavision's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Check this out... Shipped another guitar in a standard guitar box. Checked UPS and the cost was $51 for the box (with discount code) Actually a good price. Then, checked Pirate Ship and it was only $37. Not sure how they can do it, but they can. -
Shipping tales - URGENT UPDATE!!!
santellavision replied to santellavision's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I found the best prices are at Staples or Office Max, sometimes on sale and I grab 2-3 big-ass rolls! Home Depot is usually more expensive. -
URGENT UPDATE: Just read this about FedEx shipping guitars. Back to our original programming... As many of you have seen, I've been selling off a bunch of gear... guitars, amps, pedals etc. And, I have found out some really interesting tid-bits on shipping. There seems to be more ways to ship gear than ever. Beside the standard USPS, UPS, FedEx etc. I've found some great discounts at other places. It also seems the box and sizes sometimes makes one shipping service better than others. What I mean is, you just have to check all of them to see which ones gives the best price for a particular box/weight. It's kinda' a pain-in-the-ass to enter all the info multiple times, but I'm retired, I have plenty of time - haha. But, it can save you a LOT of money on big items. OK, let's not get into a flame-war over which company is safer than another. It's all a crap-shoot, they all can damage stuff. Over the years, I haven't found one to be the 'Best' to ship. That's why I over pack and bubble-wrap the crap out of everything and make sure there is plenty of room around the item as to not let something hit the box and still get to the gear. Loosen strings, take off switch-tips, secure guitars in cases, pull tubes and wrap separately when possible, put paper under the strings as to not let the strings vibrate and possibly put indentations on frets etc. Double box guitars with gig bags. With all that, damage can still happen. Back to shipping... There are the big 3. UPS, FedEx, USPS (Yeah, there is also DHL) Also, when selling on Reverb or Ebay, they offer discounted shipping if you use them. And, can provide 'safe shipping' coverage, which can be good. (I usually have all my gear insured by Heritage Insurance, so I have that to rely on. I have only had to use them once in 20 years and they were great.) But, I've found much better shipping prices outside of Reverb and Ebay. Then, there are some other outside companies that you should check: PirateShip.com and Paypal. Yeah, Paypal offers discounted shipping, even if you didn't use them for the sale. Their prices have been EXCEPTIONALLY good!!! Sometimes the best I have found on big items. Also, always remember to check for discount codes, especially when using UPS, I have found some really good, 20-25% discount codes on the webbernets. Again, its weird, one shipper might offer a better price for large items or small boxes vs another, you just have do some legwork to find out. Lately, I've found big items like guitar and amps, Paypal Shipping or UPS with discounts, seem to have the best prices. Pedals or small stuff, Reverb shipping or USPS is quick and easy. Middle size stuff, like rack gear is all over the place. Hope this helps! ernie P.S. If you guys know of any other shipping options, please post them. Let's keep this going to save us all some moolah!
