  1. Supagroup. Les Paul, SG, Marshalls, highly derivative and highly fun. Horns way up.
  2. A used early 80's carve top Sunburst w/factory Floyd. First owner was Pete Petty who ran AL&M in Raleigh and later Norfolk. Stolen from my house in 1988, still want it back.
  3. Big +1's for The Supersuckers, Supagroup, Jet, Silvertide, and Velvet Revolver. Have not heard Kings Of Leon but have heard good things about em. Brooks will diss me for this but I dig FuManchu, super fuzzy Blue Cheer-ish stoner jam.
  4. Kick ass. I can't begin to fathom the anxiety you've had.
  5. This'll prolly get some 'maters tossed my way but it's hard to argue with a 20+ year career, REM?
  6. Not that it matters in the least but isn't baby brother Johnny fronting the tribute band that's been touring as Lynryd Skynyrd since 1988? Ronnie was the one who got the Betamax guillotene in 77. Well at least when I saw 'em in 88 they had pretty much an accurate line up. King, Rossington, Pyle, Powell, Wilkinson. Good show.
  7. What becomes apparent from this thread is that, although rock 'n' roll came from America, when it comes to the best bands, the Brits have it all over the US. USA band top contenders: Van Halen Beach Boys Doors Steely Dan Skynard Allman Bros. ZZ Top Eagles Santana perhaps? Tom Petty 'n' the Heartbreakers Cars CSNY Ramones Jimi Hendrix UK Bands: The Shadows Beatles Rolling Stones The Who Kinks Led Zeppelin Police Yes Emerson, Lake, & Palmer Elvis Costello and the Attractions Sex Pistols Cream Blind Faith Derek and the Dominos Pink Floyd 2/3 of Jimi Hendrix Experience Animals Moody Blues Deep Purple The Hollies The Fixx Queen UB40 U2 Depeche Mode Eurythmics The Cure Long John Baldry Manfred Mann Rod Stewart / Small Faces Spencer Davis Group Van Morrison / Them Yardbirds Zombies From a quality/influence/legacy point of view, Brit rock by and large CREAMS US rock. UB40? Eurythmics? There are some reaches on that list. Howabout The Mighty, Mighty Bosstones? Black Flag? Grand Funk? Ratt? The Ventures? Night Ranger? Dead Kennedys? Band Of Gypsies? Television? Toto? Umm where would Spinal Tap fit in?
  8. YES!! Does Star Trek suck because Shatner sang Beatles songs? No, it sucked hard long before Bill recorded that beat poetry shit . Nimoy's cover of "If I Had A Hammer" is a real jewel though. Stike ducks to dodge flying pocket protectors.
  9. Props to ZZ Top for 30+ years with no line up changes. Not wild about their 80's-mid 90's stuff though. Aerosmith is cool until you get to the Desmond Child, Diane Warren penned shlock. HHB speaks the damn truth about Skynryd. Take any 3 guitar players and get 'em to pull off a few covers correctlly and see what happens. I did a one off Skynyrd cover band and working out who did what was a bitch. King and Gaines are/were great lead players too. Van Halen of course, does III count? Not that I'm a huge fan but Metallica has sold a few in 20 years.
  10. Sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree with that. This current trend of claiming that all opinions have equal validity, or “it’s my opinion, and it’s just as important as yours”, is crap. Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day is a high school drop-out. What you are saying is that he is just as qualified to comment on current events as someone who has a BA in Political Science, or a Masters in International Relations. Does education automatically make the more educated person’s opinions right? Not hardly. But in many cases they do have a more informed background from which to reach their conclusions. All opinions DO NOT have equal validity, and some are just completely wrong. It’s a shame when an otherwise talented band decides to use their music and celebrity as a platform to push an agenda I disagree with. I generally don’t buy albums or go to movies when I know that my money is going to contribute to causes I disagree with. To me, it’s like writing a check to the enemy. He maybe a high school drop out but he did make about 50 bajillion dollars from the Dookie album alone and he obviouslly hasn't been spending his days woodsheding Yngburst licks so he's probablly got lots of free time for "studying". Not saying anyone's wrong for not agreeing with the albums theme(I'm not saying he's right either) but there are a whole mess of folks working in talk radio that from a education/degree point of view are about as "qualified" as Billy Joe.
  11. Ya know you could say the same thing about alot of the Rush Frankens and politicians themselves.
  12. Lotsa them guys used ADA MP1 preamps. A 5150 head will do that stuff well too.
  13. Actually that's kinda funny now that you mention it. There were 2 stages(inside and outside)one band played while the other setup. While we were setting up the band inside was playing loads of Motown and I was singing along the whole time Love The Temptations, hate dipshits who think any band in a bar is their personal karaoke machine.
  14. One of my old bands that has been effectivelly dead for 13 years now got back together to play a multiband party at a friends bar last night. Played my 92 Sunburst half the set, there's yer Hamer content. Anywho so we're about halfway though our set and this turkey walks up onstage with some wadded up bills and informs me that 40 bucks is ours if we let him sing "My Girl". Now I'm wondering what this guy had been hearing for the last 30 minutes because if I had heard a band playing stuff lke GNR, AC/DC, Top, Halen, and other equally crunchy stuff I don't think I'd expect them to busting out "MyGirl" anytime soon and we sure as shit were not about to either although we did bust out Dwight Yoakam's "Guitars And Cadillacs" to screw with people's heads. But as with most folks who wander up onstage this guy was not gonna go easy. To his offer of 40 bucks I countered with four thousand, he went to 60 and peaked at 80 so I had to just flat out tell him we didn't know the fucking song and wouldn't be able to play it if a gun was stuck in my temple. He then offered to sing it accaplla, "when we're done, get off the stage". Of course in a Cosantanza moment after the set out singer said we should of took his cash and gave him some Sonic Youth-esque noisy backing music to work with My hats off to ya'll who bust yer butts in REAL working coverbands who actually have to be polite to didpshits like the one I descrided.
  15. Well if they are real PAF's then 15 large is quite the bargain. If they keep going up in value you could sit on 'em for a little while and turn a profit down the line. Of course NOTHING sounds as good as original PAF's as their market value shows and if they turn out to be double whites they'll sound even better. Seriouslly, I got no idea if that thing is really late 50's or not. The tuners are probablly aftermarket and yeah that neck looks like mahogany to me too. Maybe a Kalamazoo "lunch box" guitar?
  16. Once again why guilty about Buck, esp. w/ Don? He was a bad mofo.
  17. Cmon guys, what's to be guilty about some the stuff ya'll listed. Aint nothing wrong Squirel Nut Zippers( a fine NC export I might add ) and there aint a damn thing wrong with liking Sam Cooke. You want guilt(aka crap), if Rick Asltey's Never Gonna Give You Up comes on the radio lets just say I dont race to change the station. Now start fessin' up.
  18. Hey El, I didn't think anyone knew who The Yahoos were. Terry Anderson is a good friend and a certified nut job. My picks The Backsliders RIP Tenderloin RIP The Derailers Drivin N' Cryin'(Kevn's got a new band with Stevie Ray Vaugnabe Gibb Droll) CC Adcock Fu Manchu The Needles Supersuckers(do they qualify?) and of course The Poonhounds
  19. Depends on the rock star. Zakk Wylde obviouslly does all his shopping at his local Harley dealer and John Mayer seems to frequent the Gap. Some of those guys have stylists that just throw anything and everything at them, lord knows where it comes from. Also with most labels, managment, etc. being in LA, NYC, Nashvegas, etc. you're gonna find more "rock star" stuff to wear in those cities. One day I'll have a Nudie style suit of my very own, Porter Wagner's the shit!
  20. At least he didn't pull the little plug outta the bottom again.
  21. The Skate Ranch? I almost got tossed outta that place for brown baggin' at a Christian metal show.
  22. Okay Garner is to Raleigh as K'town is to Winston or maybe Walkertown is to K'town? Anyway now you've heard of it, c'mon down. Brooks doesn't live to far from you, carpool.
  23. Go back a couple posts and click on Long Assed Thread link which will take you to the Gear Page thread about it. Just send a PM to the Tonedaddy guy and he'll hook you up with all the info.
  24. I meant that Gomer got his hepatitis from drinking Floyd's Barbicide which wasn't really Barbicide but blue Kool Aid. Back on tracklong assed thread
  25. Please tell me you at least know about Gomer, right?
