Huber Redwood for sale soon
django49 replied to django49's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
My 2 cents worth. If you like green, P90s and the Krautster, at least take a look at the Hartung Junico on Reverb with TWO P90s. The Junico is virtually the same as the Krautster. I had one (more standard HB bridge,. P90 neck set up ) I actually thought it was a better guitar than the Krautster. But when it came down to having to make a choice, I let the Junico go. The Krautster was just more of a flat out rocker and met my need a bit better. (FWIW, I regretted selling---to a member her--and bought it back from him. After a while I then sold it back to the same guy. Neither of us REALLY wanted to let it go. I do not know if he still had it when he passed). The one on Reverb has a cocobolo board rather than ebony. But check it out.....Cocobolo BACK as well and a rosewood neck. That combo may not be for everyone, but I think it would be great. Def worth a look....Appears it has been for sale for awhile. PS....I have had 5 of Ron Thorn's builds, all predating the Fender days. I did let 2 of them go, but have only good things to say about any of them. (Two of them involved trades between Haig and myself). -

Huber Redwood for sale soon
django49 replied to django49's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
Yes, I was surprised he mentioned that low a price. In fact, I forwarded that to another friend that has bought several great guitars from me, including one Redwood and a really tricked out Dolphin. He was pondering whether he needed a second one. What can I say? It is an addiction. The lightweight and semi-hollow Redwood is something I did not fully appreciate until I plugged one in. -
Huber Redwood for sale soon
django49 replied to django49's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
Okay, a bit of an update. He has a target price at around $5k to include shipping. All things considered, that seems very reasonable. Try to find one for less! Update on specs.....Besides the one piece top, a 1959 Hausell bridge pickup, snakewood custom order for the board, headstock overlay and tuners. Hardwood pickup surrounds. Another of Greg's original pictures..... FWIW, Haig has also posted a Ron Thorn Grantura in korina with hard to get GT-90 pickups on TGP. Now if I was in a buying mood...... At risk of stating the obvious, (I think) everyone should try out a Huber someday if they can swing it. I have had about 2 dozen (If I have not lost count). Still have more than half of them. Sold a good number of them here. All pleased buyers, to best of my knowledge. -

Posting for a friend in So Cal. This is a guitar that I bought new through Greg Platzer some time back. I sold it to a guy who is quite serious about high end guitars. (Why did I sell? I got another in korina and another with a BRW neck. You know how that goes.....) My buddy is now in need of a bit of downsizing himself. And someone who has done tons of deals in higher end guitars and has shipped all over the world. But I thought I would mention it here, as I know we have some folks that love these. These are incredible guitars. As someone one said, "The voice of the angels". This model is essentially the same as a Dolphin, but has the redwood top over a semihollow body (no f holes). As much as the Dolphin is my long term go to guitar (more than a decade), the Redwood is just a bit sweeter in tone as well as being lightweight. I will come back and update when I get current pictures and an asking price. FWIW, the cheapest used one on Reverb is currently about $6k, with new ones going as high as $13k, though the latter is much more "tricked out". I am sure his price will be very fair. No vested interest, but I know this guitar and am happy to make an introduction to anyone interested. Here are some original pictures showing the one piece top and giving a taste of the figure in the custom ordered fingerboard and headstock. Come to think of it, I should probably sell one or two other model Hubers myself. But for now, I am only wanting to sell locally. 😉

Way back, several years earlier than that one, the local "dream rig" was a toss up between a Sunn or Fender (Dual Showman), either with a huge 2 x 15 (JBL) cabinet. Priced at $999 IIRC, it was a complete dream for a kid like me. (Though I did pick up a Showman head and 1 x 15 Showman "tone ring" cabinet at a decent price. Separately, later found a 2 x 15 Showman cab with two JBLs for a steal---$75. Was about like picking up a refrigerator for a skinny kid. I may be wrong, but think it might have been around 100 pounds). Sunn and the Kingsmen were local legends then. I reckon someone will buy this as more a collector's item than for heavy use.... A few years later, Marshall reset the table........As a friend said, as he drooled over one, "Three is the threshold of pain". I am amazed at how SMALL an amp I can get by with these days....And not throw my aging back out. The speaker cab I used playing out earlier today was closer to 20 lbs, rated at 250 watts and way more than adequate.

Despite its impressive earthshaking performance, the Mitsubishi Dialtone D160 faced several challenges. Its enormous size and weight made it impractical for most home environments. -
If you can, find someone locally with similar interests. I have always done better when there is someone else, with us each encouraging/stretching the other. Much more so than trying to be a guitar hero in the guest bedroom. 😉 For me there is a great local "jam class" that gets folks like me together to focus on LISTENING and playing with people. I always come away a bit better, even if lately I have been playing less than before. An extra benefit, they provide some opportunities to perform in front of people.

Amongst other stuff I accumulated over the years. An old flight case for an ES-335. Stickers and back stage passes suggest it was used by someone associated with Bob Welch/Fleetwood Mac, Chicago, Beach Boys and the Muktananda World tour. Seemingly from Los Angeles to New Zealand. Cannot recall who I bought it from in Santa Monica. Or why....... I wonder if anyone actually uses this stuff any more......🤔 -
My experience is with the (CFD/OD) Ethos variations. They have a "GAC" switch. It compensates for the normal EQ of a typical guitar/combo amp. Works great. Or bypass it (GAC) and go direct into a neutral power amp or PA system. Fronting a combo gives you an added option if you like the bypassed sound. I always liked setting the combo for a nice "bluesy" tone, then setting the clean side of the pedal (with GAC) to get a cleaner sound than the base tone of the amp. (My choice---Blue Angel). Strange as that seems. The OD channel then allows two more tones....."Regular" OD and OD with boost. In effect, 4 tones on the fly. In my words, clean, bluesy, Mesa/Dumble, Marshall. (You WILL have to spend some time tweaking to taste!) The CFD opens up so many more ways to tweak. And, arguably, even more "tube-like". Even more time to dial it in. But once you are there..... You could go into a powered speaker or bypass the preamp in a combo amp. Or get the Ethos power module for a board mounted power amp. More or less the power of a Deluxe Reverb, so it may or may not work in a live gig by itself. Although I have used it playing live in a typical bar gig. Small, light, sounds great. Mate with a lightweight 1 x 12 and it was all I needed. Great for practice or mobility......Small board in one hand (with Ethos OD, Ethos power amp and Flint pedal), small cab in the other, gig bag over my shoulder. With a shop built cabinet with one (100 watt) 8" speaker and a mini Quilter head (even smaller foot print) I went head to head with an Orange half stack at a gig. It was more than enough. The Orange guy (NOT a politician!) was shocked. Notwithstanding his pedalboard the size of Rhode Island.😏 There are other board mounted power amp options. The one thing I did not like about that (think Milkman) is the preamp portion of the power amp did not play well with the preamp (Ethos) input. That is, if I dialed in a good tone from the Milkman, the Ethos did not stack well with it. At least from my experience. To repeat.....Be sure you are prepared to spend some time tweaking to taste. There are a LOT of knobs and buttons that are interactive. But time well spent, IMHO.

Yes. I keep experimenting, but have a board set up with FOUR Ethos units.....CFD, TWE, older "Clean" and a power amp. (The power amp is under the pedals at the upper right). Gives me multiple presets to select from with a bit of tap dancing. All I need to carry in is the board and a speaker cabinet....A 1 x 12 Forte style works very well. I understand he intends to have a CFD AMP unit in production later this year......I respectfully suggested he come up with a stereo amp option.....Would work well with one of my shop built stereo cabinets!

Yes.....I managed to snag one on the first batch. The original Ethos Overdrive has been the basis for "my sound" for years. The CFD takes it to a new level.I also have the TWE and tend to use it by itself, as a sort of "hot rodded Marshall" alternative to the tones of the CFD. I guess I need to go back and experiment a bit more with that recommended stacking (into the clean/Deluxe side).

And THAT is the reason I do not need the new Fuchs. The CFD is great. My unsolicited advice is that you also get their optional add on 2 button footswitch to add extra capabilities on the fly.
