Hey all, Saturday night was awesome! It was great to see such a wide range of styles represented. The extended "Sunday night craziness" experimental jam was very cool. And great playing by everyone! I had a great time trading licks with tomterrific and MikeC. And Chris, you've never sounded better. Your solos were smokin'! Looking forward to next year! Poe, J. Priest is an excellent suggestion! Looking forward to doing an 80's set next year!

Stringing a Stop Tail ... SP owners
Nuclear Wessel replied to pesocaster's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
If the added string length you get from wrapping the strings around the top gets you easier bending and softer action, maybe Hamer is on to a great idea positioning the tailpiece further from the bridge on the Newport Pro. Will we see a rash of custom order Hamers with the "Newport Pro bridge & tailpiece spacing" option with $200 upcharge? -
Congratulations, Teh! Holy smokes, you hit the jackpot! I'd lean toward a Newport Pro too. With a flame or quilt maple top. ANd then maybe request some extra goodies like binding on the f holes, mother of pearl logo, victory inlays on the fretboard, maybe ebony fretboard. That's not too much bling, but it will make you say "Wow!". Beware if you have poor bladder control. That's if you want a hollowbody. If you're after a solidbody, the Studio is an amazing rock & blues guitar. Order it in korina, with quilt maple top, in jazzburst. OMG, that would look killer.

I wish I'd seen that performance of Tubular Bells! I always thought it was a phenominal album. As much as the term visionary gets thrown around, I think it fit that piece of music. I saw Collins' band doing Hand in Hand on HBO in the 80's too. It had the same effect on me. Real pretty melody, and how the band builds from pp to forte through the course of the song is mesmerizing. I still remember hearing And You And I by Yes when I was a kid. I was at a tropical fish store and they had the local rock station on in the store. That vocal melody just got me! I remember the first time I heard Us & Them by Floyd, and Afterglow by Genesis on the radio when I was a kid. For being a guitarist, I'm sure a sucker for that blissed out keyboard-heavy stuff.

Where Kahlers should never go
Nuclear Wessel replied to BCR Greg's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
From what I remember, the trem Kahler made that was designed to fit on TOM bridge guitars mounted to the existing posts for the bridge & tailpiece, but I think there was still a little routing necessary, so once you put one of those on, it's not like you could change back without an ugly gash remaining in the guitar. -
Very cool Centaura! I like that finish too. This Centaura fits the description of one that the Admiral put up a PSA post about probably 6 years ago. This one and a Diablo were NOS in a shop in Indiana. I called the shop, closed the deal on the Diablo and asked them about this one as well. They said a customer had custom ordered it, put money down on it but then never picked it up. They were real nice guys to deal with and included a sweet TKL molded case with my Diablo. That's a really nice custom shop guitar!

Green Artist Custom on Ebay

What a totally lame ending to that auction! 7 bids by 0 feedback bidders! Bid history -
So that explains some of the used guitar auction where the auction closes at over $2000 and the high bidder has 0 feedback. Now we know what's really going on!

Green Artist Custom on Ebay
Nuclear Wessel replied to Submariner85's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
The Studio is great. Killer tone, comfortable neck. It might come down with me to the jam. I'm trying to decide between a couple of guitars. Once in a while, one of these Artists ends up going for a real bottom feeder approved price. Good luck! -

I love it. I was keeping an eye out for one of those for a while. If I hadn't scored the green Studio a few months ago, I'd definitely be after this one. -

Your personal guitar inspiration?
Nuclear Wessel replied to MrGuitarguy's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Mine have changed, or new ones were added over the years too. But my first inspirations when I was a kid, before I even started playing guitar, that made me want to start playing were probably Jimi Hendrix, Robin Trower and David Gilmour. After I started playing, it was everyone from Lifeson to Metheny to David Torn to Satriani. -
The one piece of Behringer gear that I've owned (a stereo De Noiser) was good enough for playing out but not for the studio. Their pedals might be OK for what you want to use them for, but I'd put them through their paces at the dealer first. You might find the sound quality so bad and so noisy that they're useless even to a one eared bassist. I've found that most cheap gear, Behringer included, WILL disappoint, even for what you pay for it.

This is supposed to help hurricane victims?
Nuclear Wessel replied to Nuclear Wessel's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
This statement inspired a few minutes of reflection and introspection on my part. I've concluded that a. If Gibson had made that guitar look more presentable, or even cool looking, I would have thought "Kinda expensive, but it sure looks cool" and would never have started this thread. b. If THAT guitar were a Hamer, I'd have been blinking my eyes in bewilderment and disbelief, and would have started a thread asking what were they thinking? c. If Hamer comes out with a new model that they donate part of the sale price of to hurricane relief efforts, I fully believe it will look absolutely stunning. -

I'm sure the volunteers at Habitat for Humanity would have been able to nail the pieaces of wood together straighter than the "craftsmen" at G!bson. -

Just to make sure I'm clear on this, I have no problem with Gibson or anyone else contributing to helping hurricane survivors in any way. I do wonder how much money G!bson will raise selling a guitar as ugly as that one, but an effort to help keep the culture of New Orleans alive by helping musicins who have lost property is to be commended. I just re-read the press release on HC and saw the bit about the guitar being painted with the "colors of the Mardi Gras". I really thought at first, given that the guitar is "Hurricane Motif" and the back is "reliced", presumably to suggest the guitar survived the hurricane, that the colors on the top were supposed to suggest the toxic chemicals that we've all heard were washed all over New Orleans. I thought that was pretty poor taste. Not even that. I thought it was just stupid. I don't think anyone here is slighting G!bson for making an effort to help hurricane survivors. There are plenty of good reasons to slight them. And that guitar really is ugly. And if they were thinking the top should look like the wood was soaked in toxic chemicals to simulate the "Hurrican Motif" and then thought better of it, well that is still a poor excuse for making a butt-ugly guitar.
