Saigon Kick

Loved this band. Some corniness in the video but who cares. Opened for them once, got called on stage to sing. Serious highlight of my life! Love the harmonies. I always thought they where light years ahead of the generic hair bands they got lumped in with. The harmonies, guitar playing, the tribal vibe, very Jane's Addiction in spots. Jason Beiler (guitarist, eventually sang lead as well) is a genious songwriter. Had a band called SuperTransatlantic with Extreme's Pat Badger for about 5 minutes in the late 90's.

Hey guys,

I saw Saigon Kick open for Dream Theater many years ago. I thought they were a great band and had cool songs. Later on, it turned out that Jason Bieler is a crook and ripped off his bandmates. I don't think there will be a reunion anytime soon.

I think I've only heard one song and it was a fairly cheesy ballad - something like "love is on the way." Was that a bad representation of the band?

I read all that stuff on Metal Sludge too. While there's always some truth in just about everything, Matt Kramer doesn't sound like he's playing with a full deck.

Typical "power ballad". There's alot more to them than that, although I don't think it was a bad song...

I opened for those guys too. I started drinking tequila as soon as our gear was cased so I don't really remember too much about their set <_< .

You started drinking tequila after your set? Bah. B)

That song ends with one of the highest notes I ever heard a man hit. I mean "balls in a vise" high.

Edit: never mind, I'm thinking of Never Let You Go by Firehouse.

Ditto. I only got to see them once, opening for Extreme. I thought they were very, very good, but even through a squeaky-clean sound system with miles of headroom, they were 'threshold of pain' loud (MCChris will tell ya, I LIKE loud), and it dampened my enthusiasm. Never forgot 'em though, and the bass player could flick more picks per song than anybody I've seen before or since.

I saw 'em touring for their first CD. the first album was awesome, the Lizard had some good and not-so-good stuff. Definitely one of those bands that got tagged as a hairband though thanks to the requisite power-ballad. ick.
