elduave Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 2000 Hamer USA Sunburst Reissue SB77. Part of the Open House limited run. One of six I believe. Now has the original double cream/zebra pickup config. Original Sustain Block. Gold hardware, Ultimate Quilt. Plays/sounds amazing. excellent condition. Tagged at $1919 in store, will of course do better for HFC brethren...
elduave Posted June 24, 2006 Author Posted June 24, 2006 Dayum Dave.....Neck profile? Weight? I'm not good at judging neck profiles but it feels slightly smaller than the standard "Vintage" carve. Maybe today's "Modern"? It weighs 7.75 lbs. Here's apic with the original (currently installed) pickups.
Travis Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 What are the currently installed pikcups? Is the maple top as thin as the original Sunburts, or as thick as the Special FMs?
elduave Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 $1850 shipped within the US via cash/check, MO...$1875 credit, buyer pays UPS shipping of choice...Or...Throw money at me at the DC Gathering...
cmatthes Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 That is the thicker top. That was from the HFC 2 guitar run - there were only a handful made and it was limited to the number of original-issue Gold Sustainblocks left from the early '90s when they phased them out. This was a very limited run, and this was one of two that I recall in (insane!) quilt.

ericb Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Hi, guys. The sb77 does, in fact, have a thin maple cap like the original bursts...not like a special fm. Also, in addition to the bridge, the pickups are nos Dimarzio parts that Hamer still had from the old days. This is a superb, light-weight guitar that I only parted with because I have three (and b/c Dave made me a great offer). Also, although the neck may not be as thick as select vintage carves I've played, it's still as big or bigger than most.
Travis Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 So how does it sound compared to the old Sunbursts? Is it a faithful reproduction in every way? Or does it have its own tonal character? What I mean is, would it compare tonally to my 78 Sunburst, or would it have somewhat of a different flavor to it?
elduave Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 Folks-I'm at the store for about 2 minutes just checking in. If I don't get back to you right away it's 'cause my home internet is down. Thanks Eric & Chris for helping out with details...
peedenmark7 Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 I would guess it is a totaly different animal having the thicker maple top...pickups are likely quite a bit different as well.VERY nice top though...
cmatthes Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 John:(From Eric, the original owner)Hi, guys. I was under the impression when orders were being taken for that run that the tops were going to be slightly thicker or milled down standard tops, but Eric mentioned that the top is indeed a thinner version (he would know - he bought a few from that run!). I'm not sure if it is as paper-thin as the old Sunbursts, but I'll see if I can get a peek at it. No matter what, those are really cool gits.
ericb Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Sorry...should've clarified. Although it is thin and not at all like the Special FM that someone mentioned, it's still slightly thicker (as Chris suspected) than my 79 sunburst by ~1mm. It is also obviously bookmatched as opposed to the one-piece originals. I have no idea what, if anything, this does to the tone. I'd guess the variance from one tree to another and type of finish would make a bigger difference, however.
peedenmark7 Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 chris; aaaahhh> thats good info ! hamer made a good effort at the replication then. which would put it somewhere in between vintage and new which isnt a bad thing... the top is indeed killer ! a very nice burst shot on this as well.. the later 3x3 paddle headstock [at least to me] looks better bound ,than plain . thats my only hangup or dave wouldve already gotten the coin from me. when bound [like bens special HB] the headstock almost looks longer/narrower like the '70s headstocks.. thats the reason I gravitate only to bound headstocked standards when buying newer ones.... for some reason the binding seems to give the illusion of a longer /slimmer headstock... regardless of my little binding hangups, this sunburst is an extremely beautiful piece and way worth the asking !!!!!
elduave Posted June 26, 2006 Author Posted June 26, 2006 JW/GH-Yes, the Eclipse is for sale. Drop me a line for info.dave at rocketeria dot bizThanks for all the help on the SB77 guys!
