JohnnyB Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Selling this guitar puts me within range of a relatively reliable 600-700hp engine tune. Pssst...Q: Wanna make a small fortune in auto racing?A: Start with a large fortune.
Michael_ Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 toby...your skyline...got pics?It says that the Infiniti g35 is basically an imported Skyline for N. America - true?I saw one at church that said skyline on the back but I think it was a G35 with redone badges. Any Skyline you've seen in America is either illegaly imported, or a rebaged 350Z or G35. Tobe's skyline is a much, much different beast, with electronic 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel steering, and the legendary RB26 engine. It's a freakin' beast of an automobile, one that could easily be worth selling a Virt for.
tobereeno Posted July 10, 2006 Author Posted July 10, 2006 fresh off the boat from Japan... happily at home: the heart of Godzilla: mortally wounded: oh, the blood.... I was kinda hoping I could somehow get away with a lower repair budget (and pull this amazing instrument off the market!) but after the engine teardown there are lots of little things that would be smart for me to replace while everything is out, and in the end I can safely run about 30% more boost than I had before. Oh, how possessions do possess us more than we possess them Ain't getting rid of a car this good, and no way in hell am I selling my doubleneck, so there you go and here we are...

America - true?I saw one at church that said skyline on the back but I think it was a G35 with redone badges. The Infiniti G35 *is* called a Skyline in the Japanese market. But Nissan Skylines come in all kinds of trim levels and even two or four door models. It's the GT-R model that has basically made the rep of the car. The 2.6 liter straight six makes 320hp stock, and it doesn't take much in modifications to double that. It's that engine, plus the computer-controlled 4WD (which works like the system on the Porsche 959) that makes a skyline a Skyline. (I got rid of the 4 wheel steering system, it replaces 100 pounds of crap in the rear with a single bar, and makes the car easier to drift a little through corners. Plus it's one less thing to break on an already complex car.)
tobereeno Posted August 9, 2006 Author Posted August 9, 2006 well, it looks like I get to keep it for now - there was definitely some interest but time went by, my new engine from Japan showed up, and I'm out less than I thought I'd be. I think - the final bill hasn't been tallied. I hope this engine holds, especially as I'll be increasing the boost to around 15psi. If this one blows, a lot more than my Virt will be up for sale
BCR Greg Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Don't push the pedal on the right so hard and the engine won't blow.

Damn, they get expensive quickly. I now have 2 back in the shop. Good luck on the engine and the hobby. Keep us posted. Positive Vibes! Hamerica
burningyen Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 WTF, is there drag racing in Seoul??? Glad you held onto the Virt.
tobereeno Posted August 10, 2006 Author Posted August 10, 2006 WTF, is there drag racing in Seoul??? Glad you held onto the Virt. lots of racing around here, surprisingly. There's a full-on racetrack at Everland, and on non-race days anyone can use it...it's pretty funny to see families in their minivans take tourist laps around the thing There's drag racing and circuit racing leagues that are pretty affordable in the 1.5 liter and under classes - I'm going to run my Turbo Scoupe next year. All I gotta do is strip the interior and put in a roll cage.
Michael_ Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 There's drag racing and circuit racing leagues that are pretty affordable in the 1.5 liter and under classes You mean GoKarts? Nah circuit racing small displacement cars is something I want to do one day, have fun with it. Glad to hear things are back in order with the Skyline.
tobereeno Posted August 12, 2006 Author Posted August 12, 2006 Don't push the pedal on the right so hard and the engine won't blow. that's like buying a Soldano and then being told not to push the gain past five
John E Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 I hate to be a naysayer, but don't about three-quarters of "guitars you miss" stories that you hear involve selling guitars to buy parts for that ultimate depreciating asset--cars?
