Craig Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Saw the Eagles at Nassau on LI last night, what a great show! Every one of those guys can still play and sing. Questionable choice of outfits at times, but the guitar selection was awesome. Strats, Teles, LPs, and a bunch of unique guits: Black TLE style thing with no inlays but a scorpion, frankenstrat w/ one pickup ala Jack, LP flourentine, Gibbys and more. Joe Walsh can play his ass off, he was terriffic. I was not happy when we bought these tix because they were so expensive, but since it was a Xmas present for Mom-in-law, we did it. Well worth the dough, they only played one or two songs I didn't recognize. They did several Don Henley numbers (including boys of summer), Glen Frey's "you belong to the city", & the Joe Walsh hit. No Witchy Woman though. A good time had by all, if your wallet can handle the $100 hit, go for it, I'm happy we did it. Made me that much more pissed over the crap performances by the Crowes a few weeks ago. Tonight I have freebies to BLS at Irving, anyone here going? Let me know.
serial Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 The Black Crowes sucked? Damn, I'm planning on going to the BC/Petty show when it hits the area.
Caddie Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 So who was up on stage? I assume Felder is gone, so did Walsh handle all the lead guitar work? Its gotta be kinda tough to pull off the guitar duel in Hotel CA or Life in the Fast Lane. Did they rearrange it a bit or get another guitar player in there or what?Noonan
Scottcrud Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 I saw Joe Walsh a couple of times and he's played ( and sang ) Life in the Fast lane, and played both his and Felders solos, and if you closed your eyes you'd swear Felder was up there playing his solo. Walsh is great. Why did Felder quit anyway?
bruce919 Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 I saw the Eagles back in 95 or 96' can't rember what year it was. But that was by far THE best concert I have seen. It was an outdoor shed theater & it was f'in cold. IYou could see about 50 guitar off to the side of the stage. I don;t know how they kept them in tune with the cold. They must of had an army of guy backstage just tuning them up all night. There is soo much talent in that group. It a shame they do not all gat along better then they do. Maybe they could make some more records. I can listen to all of those old Eagles records over & over.
hardheartedbill Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Felder was forced out by the uber greedy Henley and Frey
elduave Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 The Black Crowes sucked? Damn, I'm planning on going to the BC/Petty show when it hits the area. I think Craig was upset because they didn't play "the hits".
Brewmaster Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 I saw Glen Frey and Joe Walsh at the USF Sundome back a few years before the Eagles reunited. It was one of the better shows I have seen in the past 15 years. I guess these guys can still bring it even though they are getting long in the tooth.
Craig Posted April 7, 2005 Author Posted April 7, 2005 Their harmonies were amazing, I don't know the bassist's name, but his voice is terriffic. The other guitarist was Stuart Smith, if I remember correctly. He was playing Peavy all night, sort of EVH styled guits. A doubleneck even made an appearance, and the acoustics all appeared to be takamine. For those who asked, The crowes were great players, but they played slow, unknown shit for the most part, and at $100 a pop, screw you after 4 years, play the damned hits. That's why the crowes played the Hammerstein in NYC, and the Eagles are selling out Nassau & MSG after 37 years. There's a reason, they were professional, right on musically and vocally, and didn't spout any political bullshit, didn't waste concert time jamming away, and had the best sound I've heard at that venue. Fantastic show.
hardheartedbill Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 what "hits" have the Crowes even had? who played drums for the BCs?
MCChris Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Felder was forced out by the uber greedy Henley and Frey Don Henley ... the definition of a limousine liberal.
serial Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Let's see:"She Talks to Angels""Jealous Again""Hard to Handle""Remedy""Stop Kickin' My Heart Around"On the strength of the first one alone, the Robinson Bros would probably do ok with royalties for a while. I'm missing at least one or two, but they got a LOT of airplay around these parts.
Stike Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 I'm not gonna debate anything good that anyone has had to say about The Eagles, I agree. However I don't think I'd EVER pay a hunnert buxx a pop to see ANYBODY live, maybe if AC/DC were gonna play at a little 500 capacity club or ZZ Top with 2 amps, 2 vocal mics, a drum set and nuthin' else but otherwise no way.
MCChris Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 what "hits" have the Crowes even had? Zero since the second album. Maybe even the first. If you didn't know the Crowes have embraced the jam band scene, then you simply haven't been paying attention.
hardheartedbill Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Steve, I'm not saying the Crowes are not popular and don't get airplay, but hit to me has another connetation, there are popular songs by say Kings X that fans like and are not hits, and on pricing I'm firmly w/ Stike ( is he ever wrong? LOL )MC Chris, yeah, that was kinda my point, like all those Phish hits we hear LOL
DavidE Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Felder was forced out by the uber greedy Henley and Frey Don Henley ... the definition of a limousine liberal. That's the best description of Henley I've ever heard. He's the kind of guy who bitches about lawyers and then hires an army of them to sue his bandmates. What a freaking ego. Deserved? Maybe, but I don't have to like it.Felder is one of the tastiest guitar players ever. Period. Granted we don't know what REALLY happened, but it sucks that he's gone.

I'll take Klaus Meine over Don Henely any day. Just fanning the flames of what I think is going to be the best thread of the day.
serial Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 One of my law professors said she lived with Felder for a while (or he lived with her). He must've been pretty down and out at the time... ;PPhish has NO hits. I'd say that the Black Crowes have "hits" more honestly than most bands who claim to be able to put together "greatest hits" albums. All of the ones I listed charted well and "Angels" was a top ten IIRC. Admittedly, it's been a long while though (wasn't "Kickin' My Heart Around" '97 or '98?) Kings X, similarly doesn't have "hits" (they did have one song on MTV/VH-1 that was cool), but I think based on airplay and Top40 radio, Billboard charting, etc, BC have had several bona fide ones. The big bux tix are crap though. I kinda hoped that TP and the Crowes for all of their political stuff from the "7.98" album etc. would be more PearlJam in that sense.

MCChris Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 as we all know, money changes everything Don't get me started on Cyndi Lauper ...

Caddie Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 IIRC, Felder's disagreement with The Eagles LLC was over.............drum role please............royalties!!!! To the tune of $140M. Again IIRC, this suit started back about 3 years ago. If you are really into it you can probably google-up more info than you can digest.Joe Walsh has long been one of my personal favorite guitar players. He has always had a signature tone & phrasing. Felder is also a phenomenoly talented guy. I'm sure that either one has plenty of talent to cover the other's chops in case of absence. But the chemistry of those 2 dueling it out has to be tough to duplicate.Whether you are an Eagles fan or not, ya gotta give props to their talents as vocalists, musicians and songwriters. And apparently, whether you like their politics or not, ya gotta give props to their business talents too. Each one of the various members has to have earned more money over the years than all of us combined.Props to MuseCafeChris........limousine liberal........I like that. Mind if I use it? ;-)Noonan
