Teh Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Went on an iTunes binge this weekend and picked up a few that I had on vinyl but never found on CD:Steve Hackett (Genesis Guitarist) -- Please Don't Touch and Voyage of the AcolyteRockpile -- Seconds of PleasureAlso been getting back into some Joe Pass (In Hamburg), Wes Montgomery (Smokin...) and Herb Ellis (With Oscar Peterson) lately.Chris -- I'm a major Pat Metheny fan too, but never got into the "Song X" phase of his career. Maybe it's time I give it another listen...
MCChris Posted September 6, 2006 Author Posted September 6, 2006 Chris -- I'm a major Pat Metheny fan too, but never got into the "Song X" phase of his career. Maybe it's time I give it another listen... It's certainly not for everyone. I'm way into the improv thing and it's almost too much for me. But the CD brings back memories of the live show. We staggered out of there as if we had just been worked over by Mike Tyson.
atquinn Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 allan holdsworth - 16 men of tain : dunno why i bought this, i learned long ago that i love his solos but hate his tunes. nothings changed. Tell me about it! I downloaded that album a few weeks ago and that was my exact reaction Ah well. seek out holdsworth's sideman stuff from the 70's;bruford, jean luc ponty, and esp tony williams lifetime. I have some of that stuff, but probably not enough. My favorite album of his so far is Secrets, which I think has some great compositions and awesome guitar work (and drum work for Vince Colaiuta (sp?) as well).-Austin
Submariner85 Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Beatallica - A Garage Dayz Night - all the tunes might still be a free download at beatallica.com - killer McTallica/Beatles parody. Still Free. That's some good stuff. That guy sounds like Hetfield and on And I'm Evil, that's a great Glen Danzig immitation too.
ceeb Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 My Mp3 player stays on shuffle but it seems to have it's own preferences. I just picked up an Ipod about 2 weeks ago, I only have about 60 CDs on it right now, and keep it on shuffle most of the time, and it's odd that it seems to have it's own favorites.Neil Young (Like a Hurricane comes up alot)Bob MarleyLucinda WilliamsBooker T and the MGsLyle LovetteMuddy WatersI just ripped my entire collection last week, and will probably load it up tonight. I'll have about 450 CDs worth of music. It'll be interesting to see if it's taste changes.
silentman Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Been listening to:Dream Theater - ScoreVanden Plas - Christ 0
BadgerDave Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Me too on Bob Dylan's "Modern Times".Also:Best of Buck OwensRhino's ""Rockin' Bones" Punkabilly samplerTried to listen to Eric Johnson's last disc all the way through again. Didn't make it. I'm a huge EJ fan, but the material is lacking. I'd love to hear him do an "all covers" set.
Brooks Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 seek out holdsworth's sideman stuff from the 70's;bruford, jean luc ponty, and esp tony williams lifetime. I have some of that stuff, but probably not enough. My favorite album of his so far is Secrets i'll check that out. rockola emailed me a tune from "metal fatigue" (w/ yngwie keyboardist & drummer the johansen brothers) that was really killer.
Jeff R Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Comes With The Fall - The Reckoning EP.Hey Badger Dave, +1 on the EJ observation. I like his stuff a lot too but the new record can't keep my attention at all it's so lackluster and SOS.
burningyen Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Haven't listened to a CD in a while. Been watching Pink Floyd's Pulse DVD. The more I study Gilmour the more amazing I think he is.
