Citrus Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 Is there such a thing? What is a good, inexpensive, small, bass amp
Jeff R Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 I'm looking for the bass equivalent of a Roland Microcube too...
thecajunboy Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 Is there such a thing? What is a good, inexpensive, small, bass amp Well, "good' needs to be defined a little better. Inexpensive suggests less than $150 to me, small means single 10" or 12" speaker or smaller, and bass amp means bass amp. I always thought that Fender Bassman 60 from a few years ago sounded pretty good, but is sold for about $379.
Guest galejt Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 BCR Music has one of these on their website for $199 used in good condition.
RacerX Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 I Have an SWR Workingmans 10 (and matching 10" ext cab). Sounds great for home practice and will handle a low B on a 5 string. They seem to be around for under 300 used, check em out.Mark.
killerteddybear Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 Keep an eye on your local craigslist in the "For Sale Music Instr" section. Here's the link to the main site: Craigslist - San Francisco. They have satellite sites in most of the major US cities and several strewn about the planet.Quite often people are unloading stuff with no idea what it's worth...My suggestion: Hartke Kickback 12" (or 15" if you can get it)- lots of tone control and a clean direct out for the PA when you need it.
tomteriffic Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 Some good suggestions. Another might be trying to find a used Bassman 25 from a couple of years ago. They had a new street price of about $275, should be able to be had for lots less now. I like mine, even use it for small coffeehouse gigs and it (amazingly) doesn't fart out on a low B.
tafkathundernotes Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 +1 for the Hartke Kickback 12. Nice enough to use even on smaller gigs.
killerteddybear Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 What I've done on occasion is pop the head out of my Kickback and use it to drive my Goliath I cabinet. It's not as dynamic as 400W but it's enough to keep up with two shredders...
formula73 Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 I bought a used Ashdown Blue 130 combo used for $200. Small enough for bedroom practice, tall enough for a nightstand , more than loud enough for band practices. Edited to add: I forgot about the input and output levels! You can crank the input level and get a nasty Lemmy style distortion, and there is an input level meter too. Nifty little amp, even though it manages to pickup a bit of 60 cycle noise.
Jimbilly Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 I used a recent low-end Fender bassman kickback at rehersal once in a while, it really sounds great, I think they're pretty cheap too. This one just died, it took a tumble in the back of someone elses pickup truck and the plastic shafted volume knob got worked. Other than that, cool little amps!
