F/S Line 6 Duoverb combo

Recommended Posts

Lightly used Duoverb 2x12 combo. Amp has 16 VettaII based models in a knob twisting format instead of a computer like interface. Amp models can be used alone or combined. All original manuals, footswitch and cables included. Also included is a Line6 FBV shortboard and a MIDI USB interface. The shortboard allows 32 presets and adds a tuner and wah. Using free Patchmaster software you can access multiple reverb and wah settings. I believe you can also move amp models from one bank to another allowing you to use the same model in both a clean and overdriven mode. The amp has an impreesive array of features including midi in and out, effects loop mono or stereo XLR balanced outputs and ground lift. Asking $550 for the whole package, the shortboard alone sells for about $250! Prefer local sale or meet in the middle deal(reasonable distance)Will ship if desired!!

I've been really happy with my Duoverb 1/2 stack-the combo would just be one less trip from the car to the bar. VERY useful amp for gigging IMHO-especially w/the FBV. Close enough for gubment work as far as I'm conerned.

I will ship this if necessary but it weighs around 75 #. I have all the original shipping boxes etc.

These are great "no brainer" amps with LOTS of versatility and really nice sound. At the risk of getting slagged somewhere on another forum (as I hear it), I'd recommend anyone to jump on this amp at this price. The FBV is worth a good chunk of that by itself. Easy as hell to use and I love having at least four easy tap presets available-I'm lazy, so this is great for me...

Now I just need to figure out that damned Rocktron manual. THAT's like flying a space ship!

Here's my HarmonyCentral review from a couple of years ago. I'm a big fan of the Duoverb and only got rid of mine because I don't need 100 watts. This is a LOUD amp.

Features : 10

I bought this amp because I wanted a modeling amp without effects. I have a Johnson J-Station and a Yamaha DC-Stomp and, while both of these are good for recording use, they are difficult to use in a live setting. You either have to pre-program multiple versions of each basic amp (i.e., AC-30 w/reverb and chorus, AC-30 w/slapback echo and a little less chorus, etc.) or you have to be very good at tweaking little knobs and remembering programming parameters on the fly. With the DuoVerb, you can flip to an amp model, set the tone controls just like you would with a "real" amp and run your stompboxes into the front end. Try that with a POD!

Sound Quality : 9

The amp models are all excellent and, as far as I know, authentic. I have played through Vox AC-30s, a couple of Marshalls, a blackface Deluxe and a HiWatt, but none of the other modeled amps. I own a '54 tweed Champ, a brownface '62 Princeton and a Gibson Goltone and the Duoverb sounds as realistic and complex as any of these. It is the first solid state amp I've ever played through that felt responsive rather than "hard" and inflexible. I'd swear that there is a tube rectifier stuck in there somewhere. All of the models respond to the drive control. You can get realistic clean and overdriven sounds from any of the amps. The variety of sounds are virtually endless. One nit - not all of the amp models are programmed to be equally loud at a given volume and/or master volume setting. The blackface Beluxe model, for example, is roughly 25% as loud as the Gibson Explorer model at the same control settings. This can be quite surprising (painful, even) if you've setup a great Deluxe tone and then flip the model selector to the next amp. I've spoken to Line6 customer service and they indicated that there may be a software upgrade available to address this issue.

Reliability : 8

I bought the head used and initially thought it was broken. As I mentioned above, some of the amp models are significantly quieter than others and I had a problem with distortion in one of the banks of amp models. I called customer service and they walked me through a very simple process to reinitialize the internal software. After that, the problems were gone and I've had no others. I've been inside the amp and everything looks solidly built and well protected. The cabinet is not as rugged or solidly built as some, but it's certainly acceptible considering the relatively low price.

Customer Support : 10

In the unlikely event you have a problem, call customer service and ask for Frank. One of the most patient and genuinely helpful people I've ever dealt with. If Frank is representitive of all of the CS folks at Line6, they are truly lucky. Knowledgeable, helpful and passionate about the product.

Overall Rating : 10

I've been playing for (gasp!) 30 years and a I own a bunch of gear. In addition to the amps noted above, I have a PRS Santana III, a PRS Custom 22 Soapbar, 5 Hamers, a Heritage Roy Clark, Gibson 135, Gretsch Keith Scott 6120, Jerry Jones Baritone and a few Warmoth Strat and Tele clones. I appreciate the simplicity and flexibility of the DuoVerb. It is the only modeling amp that I know of that works well with outboard stompboxes. It is as easy to use in a live situation as the actual tube amps it emulates. It really is like having a wall of 16 vintage and boutique amps lined up behind you.

I saw a head for $225 shipped with manual and 2 footswitches last night. I decided that for that price, I'd give it another shot. I responded quickly and of course the amp belonged to a friend and the lister had to check with the friend. It was sold locally in the short time it took me to respond to the ad. B.S.

Not sure what I have to offer in trade...

Arnie, I sent you a PM, but I forgot to ask, what is the ohm rating on the speakers? And does it have jacks for external cabs?

I replied to your pm. There are external speaker jacks, but you realize it is a 2X12 combo! The amp can run 4, 8 or 16 ohm speakers.

I ask about the speakers because if a person were to replace them, what ohm speakers would need to go in there? My experience has been that Line-6 Celestions are pretty lifeless.

Scooter,

I believe these are the line 6 version of the lead 80's. I really don't know the technical specifics, but it seems to me in a modeling amp you would want relatively neutral speaker so they would be predictable from model to model. At any rate IMO these speakers work well with the amp.

Someone should pick this up-great amp and that's a great package price. It's also a great palette to retolex although they have nice tolexing to begin with. Here's mine now...
