BruceM Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 I'm spinning Aimee's new Xmas cd today, and all I can say is, I'm beginning to like Christmas music again. This woman is amazing.
ctrixie Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 +1 - it's the best new one this year so far. Love the Aimee/Grant Lee Phillips Grinch duet!
Disturber Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Best X-mas CD award for 2006 goes to Bootsy Collins for the album Christmas is 4 ever. Rumour is it that the award for worst X-mas album goes to Billy Idol. I have not yet heard the album so I can not comment. But when watching this video I do not doubt that this is somewhat correct. It sounds like a joke from Idol. BTW who is the guitarplayer? Link to Billy Idol Jingle Bells Video Merry X-mas everyone!
jwhitcomb3 Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Another +1 on the Aimee Mann.Sufjan Stevens has a boxed set of Christmas stuff that is certainly aimed at the indy market. A good Christmas CD for kids (that won't make adults crazy) is "Eloise at Christmastime" on Koch. All three are on eMusic and well worth checking out!-Jonathan
MCChris Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 So Bruce, how would you say the Mann CD compares to the new Twisted Sister Xmas album?
burningyen Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 I saw the Aimee Mann Xmas concert in NYC last Tuesday. It was a bit flat and low-energy, IMHO, although the 3/4-capacity crowd was partly to blame. The Xmas song reinterpretations were interesting, though, and I bet the CD is great. Nellie MacKay was awesome, I have to get some of her stuff.Oh, and for some Hamer content: the guitar player, whatever his name is, was good, but I missed Julian Coryell's Newport stylings.
Jimbilly Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Is the Bootsy CD really good? I generally dig Bootsy. RAS Records 'A Reggae Christmas' (1988) is still one of my all time faves.
HAMERMAN Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 >BTW who is the guitarplayer? No idea but he looks a lot like the guys playing Drums and Bass! :-)
Disturber Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Is the Bootsy CD really good? I generally dig Bootsy. I just listened through the whole Bootsy christmas CD and it's killer! P-funk all the way, does not feel like a gimmick. Bootsy never fakes the funk, so I'm not surprised. I highly recommend this album for any Bootsy fan.I will check out that reggae christmas album. Sounds very cool.Wiiind me up!! Bubba.
ford Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 Twisted Sister was on Leno the other night playing a song off of their Christmas album.... it was not real good to say the least...bford
ctrixie Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Best X-mas CD award for 2006 goes to Bootsy Collins for the album Christmas is 4 ever. Merry X-mas everyone! What timing! I just bought this last night and it's definately the best booty-shakin' X-mas party CD. It's Bootsi-licious!
cmatthes Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 Aimee Mann is in town for 2 nights this week. Fred Armisen (SNL) is hosting. He's also a fantastic drummer, by the way if anybody remembers his early-90s band stuff.
