matchful Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Hello-I am new to HFC and just bought the Aceburst 1981 Sunburst from DavidE. He had said that you were the previous owner and that you could explain how it came to be. I noticed that there were 3 holes filled near the bridge and the crackling under the middle pickup route. I am curious what all you did to get it up and running. What pickups are in it? and how is the switch configured. Thanks for the info. Todd

Guest pirateflynn Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 It's rumored that pesocaster was the first owner and went at it in the middle with an unusual gusto.
Guest Meshuggah Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Dave. Did you disable the kill switch that gives you the MasterBlaster output? This kid sounds a little young.
serial Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I AM THE HFC! Actually, not sure who you were addressing this to, but I was the original HFCer to own this guitar. It came to me as a pretty nice 81 bound and crowned Sunburst that looked fantastic except for an aftermarket brass bridge (larger baseplate than the original sustain block-hence the three holes), black tape over the bridge and neck positions and a ©rudely hand-chiseled route for a Telecaster pickup in the middle position. I forget whether this one had the original bridge in the case (might have been the original bridge pickup, it's been close to ten years ago, and I haven't owned it in at least 6-7 years). In any event, the crap aftermarket brass bridge was replaced with an '81 sustain block and I got two NOS Dimarzio PAFs and rings for the pickups and had BCRGreg try to hide the nasty mid-route by properly routing for a humbucker, which did away with most of the butchery. Adding the pickups and rings covered most of the bad part of the route, and Greg managed to salvage a little bit of the original maple top/mahogany to blend in the rest. That's the slight "crack" that you're seeing. Don't even ask about the wiring-I have NO recollection what all was done under the hood there, but there were tons of combinations and a push/pull IIRC. That's as best as I can recall the story of that one. I got the guitar from a guy who was either the original or the second owner in New Jersey. A cool guitar, I always thought and very functional, but at the time, I had ten or eleven Sunbursts and decided I didn't need that many-I couldn't play 'em all.
Guest pirateflynn Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 That is a cool looking guitar. I was very tempted myself but really need to sell a few things. Good luck with it and let's hear a tone report!
El Kabong Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Dammit! That guitar is the biggest slut on this board. One day, it shall be mine.

matchful Posted February 13, 2007 Author Posted February 13, 2007 Thanks man, that is a terrible recording using a drum machine. We have been in the studio for the last couple of months doing the real deal. I will let you know when it gets mixed down and updated on the site. The tune- 'lectric Halo -on your Myspace page sounds really good.
