hardheartedbill Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 thanks to GregC for a flawless transaction, my third Daytona arrived today and this is what I have bben looking for 7.25 lbs of snappy goodness. neck could be bigger ( my old T-51 is still the bigneck Hamer champ ) but still sizeable and good feeling. funny cause I just played a Suhr classic and the EJ strat last sunday, this dusts em both at 1/4 and 1/3 the respective prices! thanks to Admiral B for his sage advise
gregc Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 I'm glad you like it and I'm glad to see it with you!Greg C

Michael_ Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 That is not helping my Strat gas.Sweeeet.
pesocaster Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 Nice Score Bill! Damn fine guitar... total vintage vibe.. I've own a LOT of strats over the years and this Daytona is one of THE finest! I've had my hands all over this pice of ash all night:
sw686blue Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 There's nothing like a tobacco burst daytona.Nice acquisitions!
Brooks Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 I just played a Suhr classic at last sunday, this dusts em both at 1/4 the prices "thats a bold statement" - vincent vega.that suhr was killer. can't wait to check this daytona out.
Brewmaster Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 NiceBill! I KNOW you will put it to good use. Nice neck? How come the Daytona's I got my hands on all had Standard Strat thin C necks? Maybe one of these days I'll find one with a nice beefy neck.
hardheartedbill Posted April 27, 2005 Author Posted April 27, 2005 it's got a neck similar to the 65 closet classic neck I tried, very similar to the Suhr Classic I tried , bigger than both my previous Daytonas. The real wow factor is the weight. I like light strat styles, this one is 7.25 lbs, very light. The first D I got was almost 10lbs, the second I got was a little lighter but had a smallish neck, this one is right in that zone. I swear, I'm a strat style guy and need to just accept that, I played a reissue 64 strat for years as my main axe , this Daytona seems to be the one!
Hamer95USA Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 Hello hardheartedbill and pesocaster, Congratulations on your acquisition of your Hamer Daytona guitars. I dig the rosewood neck on hardheartedbill's guitar and pesocaster's Daytona has a cool tobacco sunburst finish on the body. I know you guys will be spanking the plank with those guitars. I would have bought one of those, but I have a cool '84-87 Fender Japan Strat that I'm enjoying right now. But who knows? Guitar George
saxmanjack Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 The one guitar I regret 'letting go' the most was a Daytona. I swear that one didn't weigh more than five pounds!By the way, whatever happened to The Hardtail Daytona? Also a featherweight, but I couldn't deal with the jumbo frets it was apparently special-ordered with...
hardheartedbill Posted April 27, 2005 Author Posted April 27, 2005 the thing w/ Daytona is that there all over the map in weight and neck size. I also think of the hardtail now and then , wonder what the neck is like
MCChris Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 Great score Bill. I had my eye on that one too but I just ain't a single coil guy.
hardheartedbill Posted April 27, 2005 Author Posted April 27, 2005 I've only played it straight into my Deluxe Reverb at living room levels , but I really like em so far, vintage "refined" seems to be where I usually gravitate toward and these are in that mode, but I must say the virtual P-90 has me wondering if I should order the V V strat style ( guess I made the DiMarzio switch and never noticed LOL ) I'll post a gig report
Guest Buck Dharma Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 Wow, they are both killer looking Daytonas. I just sold mine. It looked and sounded great but was too heavy for me. It had a great neck too not thin. If that was one pound lighter it would have been my favorite ever. Someday I'll get another but only if it's a light one.

BD I owned the seafoam before DavidE, I feel exactly like you do about that one
ET_KenW Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 Excellent news, Bill. I forgot to weigh mine this weekend, when I brought it home for a clean up and restring. But, if I go by my years of guessing bowling ball weights, I think this puppy is close to 10 pounds. But it doesn't feel that bad on the strap. Of course I haven't stood three + hours with it around my neck either. The neck is probably that shallow 'C' you mentioned. So it's probably too small for you, but perfect for me.

Bring it by on Sunday. There are some Strat fans who would love to take a crack at that thing.
hardheartedbill Posted April 27, 2005 Author Posted April 27, 2005 Ken, you've got a cool guitar, I hope nobody thinks I'm dissing the heavy guitars tone , it's usually a little faster sounding , not as spongey, but I do stand for 3-4 hours 3-6 times a week and I just can't take that in my Daytona
ZR Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 My Trans Blue Ash Daytona is about 8lbs. I wish it was a little lighter but it sounds great!
