WTB cheap old 4 track cassette recorder

Fostex, Tascam, whatever... I just need it to run at regular speed (as opposed to high speed, like some units). I'd prefer for it to be able to accept 4 inputs at one time.

I think I still have my old Tascam Portastudio somewhere in the basement. Is it worth anything?

I just used my old Tascam 4 track two days ago after it sat for years. It always got (and did tuesday) really nice clean recordings, even with crap tapes.

I thought I found a nice cheap one locally, but it runs at high speed - which is better and makes for cleaner recordings - but all my tapes were recorded on an ancient Tascam Porta-01. If your decks say "high speed" or if they record at 3-3/4 ips, they won't work for me.

I have stuff i can trade if you don't like money.

Ugh. I HATED my TASCAM Porta 2 for that very same reason.

I want as low tech as possible. Any more than "Play and Record" and I'm out.

IIRC, mine is a Porta-1 as well. I'm fairly certain it's not high speed. It hasn't been used since the 90's, but I know it's been kept in it's box so it should be just perfect. I'll check tonight.

Trades? Such as....?

Porta 1 here as well. I like it. Of course, mine's been USED a lot!

I don't know. I'll have to go digging through my "stuff" pile. There's plenty of stuff I could stand to get rid of like pickups, a Blues Driver, maybe speakers, DOD Votec... I'm sure there's other stuff if you're interested in anything in particular.

Just checked. Mine's a Tascam PortaONE Ministudio. The tape head was alcohol swabbed before and after every use. Hasn't been used in years and appears to be pristine. Box, manual, everything.

Value?

Scooter - does it look like this?

If so, it's just like mine (except functioning). I assume it doesn't have a "HS" marking on it, right? I think they made a high speed version as well.

I'm no help on value. I bought mine used around 1994. There's only one completed ebay auction for that model...

you should look for a portastudio 424. it has adjustable speed for standard OR high speed. has an 8 input mixer, records 4 tracks at once and also allows you to send the 4 tracks each to separate outputs. I had one in the early 90's and it was great. took really good recordings too.
