Stike Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 "the neck PAF is fine (all bobbins are black)"I'd buy it if they were double cremes, anybody who's anybody knows they produce superior tone.
kurtsstuff Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 Well...if it had a floyd and emg's I'd be all over it!!
paults Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 I'm kind of glad I got a new Les Paul when I was in high school, instead of a 58-60. I probably would have kahlered it, put Dimarzios in it, etc...
hardheartedbill Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 I hate those mirrored knobs soI pass. I want a "prestege" model not that wanna beburst
kizanski Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 I'm kind of glad I got a new Les Paul when I was in high school, instead of a 58-60. I probably would have kahlered it, put Dimarzios in it, etc... True, but it was the '80's, and that was the law!Anyway, it would probably STILL be worth 50 Grand! That's the very sad part.
Michael_ Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 I must admit it is beautiful. And the Fralin rewind in the bridge probably smokes. They say the neck pu is "fine", as if there is something wrong with the way a Fralin rewound PAF sounds.
cmatthes Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 When people are paying $25k and up for a MAX replica, I just have to wonder about things a bit... Stike IS right though, the double cremes would be a bargain at that price.
kurtsstuff Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 It's just an old guitar and for the collector maybe it's cool...to a player..it's just an old and most likely worn out guitar...that whole "mojo" "vibe" and whatever expletive you care to use is just a load of crap!
anotherfreak2 Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 ................"is very nice looking but not highly figured, but the sound, that's where the real flame is - this guitar has more fire power than Schwarzenegger in a shoot-em-up action flick," those marketing classes are paying off
Brownsound Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 $140K!!!!! I would boil my hands each time I wanted to touch it!!! Lets be totally honest here. I think, materials notwithstanding, that they make a superior guitar today than they did in 1960. So far, all the Hamers that I have seen, owned, played have been better than any Gibson I have owned or played. Im talking just manufacturing here. So...what do you get for $140k....a ratty old guitar that may or may not play like a stump and you will never, ever ever ever gig with.............I still want it........
JES1680 Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 I'ts all about what you're into. My buddy is heavy into collecting Hot Wheels. He's got thousands, and several that are in the $400.00+ range. For a HOT WHEEL!If I were independantly wealthy I'd probably have a huge guitar collection, and who can argue that the holly grail of any collection is a 59 LP.
Eric Weston Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 a ratty old guitar that may or may not play like a stump and you will never, ever ever ever gig with.............I still want it........ LMAO!! +1....I've got a friend with a '52 that's in very clean shape and still plays decently....I'd HAVE to gig it though....
