Boogie1 Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Hey Alls.....In my seach for a single coil shredder I'm considering a Strat. My buddy has one that fits the bill perfect, but it was a special MIM edition last year. It had everything I need: bucker in the bridge with a coil splitter, two single coils (all Seymour Duncans), straplocks, roller nut and locking Floyd Rose tremelo. For anyone familiar, how would a Floyd Rose equipped Strat do with .046- .010 gauge strings? How playable would it be up high?Any current model recommendations? I'm looking for used but maybe new. Price range is probably around $600 max, so I'm definitely talking MIM.
murkat Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 find a used "Clssic vintage player Strat", I have a limited 2003, wont leave my mits and it is bone stock. Another side, I bought a used mim 60's strat and floy'd it and buckers.... another Fav.Fender Floyded strat usually come setup with 10's. very playable.Look for a used "big apple" as well.
Jimbilly Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Floyded strats seem to be worth less, I think I've seen usa's in your price range. Japan made strats are very nice too. Hmm, why not try a Centaura? USA Hamer for the price of a Mexi Fender?

I'd have to play one first to make sure it feels right, and to do that I'd have to find one. I'd really like a SS1 even more, but, good luck finding one of them!

SS1 are shortscale. The SSII is longscale, and feels more lika a Fender but with a set neck which works miracles for the sustain on a Floyd guitar. Serial has an SSII for sale that I would pick up if I were you. http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/index.p...l=steve+stevens(I also have one that might go for sale, but in Europe)

Beautiful and minty looking! I don't have the scratch for it though- I'm on around a $600 budget, so that's why I'm thinking used Strat. Someday I will get one for sure!
MCChris Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 The Centaura really is an excellent suggestion and one of the only guitars I can think of that has all of the features you're looking for. The two that I've played both had necks with a very shallow radius and flat profile.
serial Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 +1 on the Centaura. They were MADE for a Floyd Rose.
Steve Haynie Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Mexican Strats are A-OK if you go that route.
BLuesBuster Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 MIM strats are usually excellent especially for the money. At least the ones that passed through my hands were that way. I've had a '94 MIM Floyd Strat since, well ... 94. It always had 10-46 strings and has never let me down.
sirDaniel Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 the more real strats I play, the more I feel cheated by thinking the MIMs we're "great for the money". there are 1000 great guitars in that price range. I care not to waste my precious earth time consorting them.
