Bennyboy-UK Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Hi all,I'm 30 in April, and I'm looking for something from 78 as a present for myself. It's either a Mockingbird or a Sunburst or Standard on my list (well couple of years either way would be fine!) Figured top would be great.Cosmetic condition not so important as structural soundness and playability.Anyone out there looking to convert either of the above Hamers into cash - UK based would be best for me but not critical.I have a mint Orange AD-15/12 that I would include in a deal if that flicks anyones switch!I'd be really grateful if anyone can let me know whats out there and available.Cheers,Ben(Currently own Cali Elite, and Studio FM, plus stuff - check my profile.)
bubs_42 Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Good luck brother, I'm in the same boat. December is coming quick and i'll be 30 as well. I couldn't get a 78 but I settled for a pair of 79's.
Travis Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 I hear ya. I'll be 30 in July which makes my Sunburst about 5 months older than I am. Good luck in your quest.
BadgerDave Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Good luck, Bennyboy. They're out there.Be glad you weren't born in 1959!
dirk Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 I assume that nearly everything you see here might be available. It depends on the price...Anyway, best of luck.Dirk
Travis Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Good luck, Bennyboy. They're out there. Be glad you weren't born in 1959! Yeah, then you'd have a much harder time finding a Hamer from the year of your birth.
serial Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 I had to settle for a Fender Jaguar. Actually had one from my birth month, but the other one was better overall even if it was a little later.
moozak Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Good luck, Bennyboy. They're out there. Be glad you weren't born in 1959! I was! ...And here's a little story... in 1977 a friend of mine had an original 1959 burst. it was a little beat (even then)... but still, because of seeing / hearing / playing his guitar... i wanted one but BAD! so, in 1985... i finished college... but by then i was a single parent of a 5 year old. i located a damn near mint condition 59 burst for $8,500 (only a few years earlier my friend had gotten his for $1500) but... the whole "be a responsible parent" thing got to me and - after laboring over the decision for about a week, sadly, i passed on the deal. fast forward to today: man... i sure think about that a lot nowadays!
