elduave Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Since they're probably the best musicians to be on, I'm sure they'll lose, but I look forward to seeing them, and what cover they do...
Jack C Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 I was interested in that show until I watched last week. Looks like the singing might be real, but the rest is fake/prerecorded. The last thing I need to see is a couple badasses like Watson and Gillis playing air guitar (Blades is excused because he's been doing it for years). The one bright spot last week was Tommy Tutone's cover of a Blink 182 song. They changed it around and improved on it. That was pretty cool.
HamStd Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 HI El: Unfortunately, they are not going to be on the show, even though they are in the ads. They initially agreed to be on, but after seeing the first airing/show they decided not to do it. I heard from a pretty good source that a couple of people in the group don't want to do the show as there is too much of that "Has been" feel to it right now.If you have seen them live recently they are definitely not "has beens". They all still play really good and also still look very good.Peter.
elduave Posted June 16, 2005 Author Posted June 16, 2005 Peter: Really? Drag. They are definately still getting it done. I was bummed I missed them. In fact, I don't think I've seen them since the Big Life tour.Jack: Please elaborate on the Blades air bass thing. I was watching the 7 Wishes live video with some friends and they pointed out that Jack's right hand would often leave the bass but the instrument kept going. I don't get it. I mean, he can play, right?
Kilroy is all about... Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Hoping to get a little heat from some flames... Irrespective of the twins' matthes/misguided alliance to the NR, those clowns (NR) are and have always been irrelevant to me... sorry, i'm forever a cheap trick, the who, and stevie ray vaughan and..(king's x, schenker and sykes dude when the family is away!) . interestingly enough, i had to tolerance/watch brad gillis as a 'randy rhoads' replacement following the nashville ('82) rhoads tradegy as ozzy's new guitarist. Louisville, ky was the first or second gig following randy's death. Greatest guitarist loss of the 80s...randy rhoads. (exception for john lennon's death) Stevie ray for the 90s; Duane allman and Jimi hendrix for the 70s') bored and looking for a beating... kilroy posts...
Hamer95USA Posted June 16, 2005 Posted June 16, 2005 Hey guys, I'm sure "Night Ranger" would have easily nailed whatever cover songs was thrown at them. Brad Gillis & Danny Chauncy (38 Special) used to perform in a local northern California cover band in the early '80s called the Alameda All Stars. They are still together and gigging. The band now is Greg Allman's backup band when he tours as Greg Allman & Friends. People in the audience would call out a song and they would play it dead on, right on the spot!! Jack Blades was also a cover band veteran and can actually play a variety of styles than what you see him performing in "Night Ranger". The same thing with Jeff Watson. Give those some kudos for their playing ability. If they come to your part of the U.S., go see the "Night Ranger" live. You'll appreciate them for their great songs and playing. They are definitely not a buncho of "has beens"!! If only Jeff and Brad would start playing their Hamer USA guitars onstage again, it would be cool. I don't get Brad Gillis playing an Ed Roman "Pearlcaster" and Jeff is playing some off brand Korean guitar. Guitar George
BCR Greg Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 bored and looking for a beating... Here it comes.....Nightranger live is a hell of a departure from the sappy AOR ballad crap. THEY KICK ASS, and display a level of musicianship that can not be denied.Kilroy, you booger.Uncle Greg posts.
Jack C Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 Jack: Please elaborate on the Blades air bass thing. I was watching the 7 Wishes live video with some friends and they pointed out that Jack's right hand would often leave the bass but the instrument kept going. I don't get it. I mean, he can play, right? Yeah, I'm sure Blades can play but back in Night Ranger's heydey, he would dance around and grab the mic stand and do lots other stuff other than play bass - and the bottom end was always there. I always assumed the keyboard guy was taking care of the bassline and Jack was taking care of the showmanship.
elduave Posted June 17, 2005 Author Posted June 17, 2005 That show SUCKS! Why do I watch it?!?!? At least I turned it off after 10 minutes this time...
kurtsstuff Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 That show is the worst piece of garbage ever to grace my t.v. screen...I am soooo glad they canceled....They are much better than that and yes....they are still very relevant (sp?) I've covered their songs in my bands of the past and there still fun to play to this day!!
DavidE Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 Glad I have a regular Thursday night gig and miss this show.
DaveL Posted June 17, 2005 Posted June 17, 2005 I watched that show for the first time. It'slike a BAD CAR ACCIDENT that you can't help but watch. What was with the voting, I cannot believe Irene Cara won last night. Out of all the performers she sounded the worst, including the fact that she was outperformed by her OWN backup singers.
