Aceldama Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I've been looking for a cheap Hohner headless bass for recording and finally found one, but it's in San Diego. You guys have much success with buying and shipping guitars off of Craigslist? Some things to look out for/ alternate payment methods to insure you get your item?
Punkavenger Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Craigs list is totally random ... just depends on who your dealing with, even less guarantees than Ebay.
hamerhead Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I've had good luck with craigslist. Get as much contact info as possible, and giving the guy a call is always a good idea. Back away as soon as something seems fishy. And include your phone # when answering an ad. I scored a Tascam deck cheap from a guy who had gotten tons of emails, but I was the only one to send him my phone number.
gwayne Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I've had good luck with craigslist. Get as much contact info as possible, and giving the guy a call is always a good idea. Back away as soon as something seems fishy. Exactly. I've had two long-distance (expensive) Craigslist deals and both went without a hitch. I didn't spend a dime until I had spoken at length with the sellers on the phone.
Submariner85 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Only thing I ever sold on Craigs List was a motorcycle. The lady and her son drove a few hundred miles to meet me, with cash in hand. Everything worked out great.
harry65 Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 it's a crapshoot if ti's not a local meet & greet but paypal would offer some protection i guess..............................
Bloozguy Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I bought my Hamer Miller High Life off Craigslist in Mass. I talked with the guy on the phone and then posted a request here and got an HFC'er (thanks again, Stonge!) over there to pick it up. He even dropped it off at the Hamer factory and they shipped it back to me.
killerteddybear Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I've seen the ad.Get some more details from the seller and then maybe ask one of us locals to broker the deal? The owner at Apex Music does all my instrument shipping, and it's well done.Ask Rocktuna, I've shipped him several guitars and basses that way.
Rocktuna Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I've done lots of buying and selling off Craigslist. I always talk to the person on the phone, just to get a feel for them. Never had a problem. I've also had KTB check out and ship me stuff from the San Diego area. Like he says he drops it off with his buddies at Apex Music and they ship it out for a lot cheaper than I could, and its' always been extremely well packed.
Aceldama Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 Thanks KTB! I will call this seller and feel him out. If you don't have an issue, I would really appreciate your help.
