My last Hamer, for now. An '85, according to the pot codes as the serial number has rubbed off, pointy headstock Vector. Looks to be a one-off, custom job, as I have yet to see another one like it. Think a KK with another pickup. This was my last Hamer standing after my Californian and the Pizza Day Standard, as many know, a wicked sounding and playing guitar.

If you've been around for a while, you know this guitar has a headstock repair courtesy of yours truly. This will be a turn-off for some, and I understand, but for those looking for a great guitar that won't look like every other Vector out there, this is it. The repair was done by one of the most respected luthiers in the state. A fantastic repair to a break he called "Not that bad. You should see what I call bad.", but I thought it was the end of the world. Not invisible due to the trans finish, but beyond solid. I asked him to whatever it took to make sure it would be as stable as new for trem abuse. Looks were secondary, but I think he did a fantastic job. Follow the links to his shop in link below.

Read all about the break here

Read all about the repair here

Read about how surprised I was to get it unbroken in the first place here

Get a zip of a bunch of higher res pics here (5.08mb)

If you're serious, and want any in their full 9mp 3456x2592 glory, let me know.

Now, the rest of the story:

Other than the above mentioned repair, it's in great shape, with only a few dings and nicks here and there, with one on the top in the clearcloat. All in all, not bad for a twenty-four year old guitar. Closeups are incl in the zip file. A smidge over 8lbs on my fish scale. It's trans cherry, with a flame maple veneer top and matching head stock. It has a factory Kahler, no conversion, the stock arm and chrome tip are incl., and it has the factory "Hamer" Dimarzios. The neck pickup is simply one of the better I've heard, but I'm not a big fan of the stock bridge. I went ahead and reinstalled it so whoever buys it can hear it, but I, like many others, find it woefully underpowered compared to the neck. I'm including the Duncan Custom that I had installed which better balances with the neck, and sounds fantastic, IMO. It really brings out the sound of the all mahogany body. Not too hot, just right.

Neck is nice and straight, the fretboard is good shape, nice and dark, and the frets are in good shape with a lot of life left. The neck is a solid "medium". much like the mid nineties, but fuller and a tad deeper, but not like the Mirages, etc... The finish right where you arm comes down along the top looks like it could use some buffing. I like 'em clean, but I'm too much of a wuss to put a buffing wheel to one, scared I'd burn through the finish. Pretty much impossible to take a picture of it, and all but invisible except at certain angles/lighting. The case is a beater with a couple of broken latches, but works good and protects the guitar.

I'll throw in all wrenches needed to adjust the Kahler, and them, the SH-5 pickup, and the trem bar will packet separately outside the case. Speaking of packing, it'll be packed to survive, well, to survive the apes at UPS.

SOLD shipped, insured, and paypal'd in the CONUS only, please. USPS money order also accepted. I'm not sure I'd ask that for a regular head stocked Vector with a repair, but this isn't one of those. Please PM or email to: lockbody at bellsouth dot net. Offers considered.

Thanks for looking folks.

RAWK!! if i hadn't just got my chap, i'd be all over this, always wanted a V.

Was it common in the 80s to have the pointy headstock with matching maple? I like that one too.

I don't know. You really don't see too many regular Vectors with the pointy headstocks come up for sale. Just the KKs. They only made these for a year or two right?

Oh, if anyone would rather me re-install the Duncan Custom (which is what I would do), instead of shipping it with the stock Hamer pup installed, let me know.

Dude, if I hadn't JUST yesterday received my 94 FM Special, I'd be all over this. It would look perfect next to my white 84 Vector...DOH!

Actually, it looks like a KK with an extra pup and no pickguard.

It's beautiful, by the way.

The KK's had a much thinner neck than this one, from what I understand. I've never owned one, but from the owner's posts on here they seem to be pretty thin. This one seems to be the standard mid-eighties profile. I have a pic I didn't use, let me find it.

Zorrow, this one, and that white one with boomers? You'd have two of the baddest eighties Vectors out there.

(Okay, I'm officially bad. But it's true! )

You are a bastard, yes. ...but this year I'm into gear I really need --a good looper, a Pignose Piggy-In-A-Box pedal, a set of humbucking-sized P-90's and so on...

Price lowered to SOLD Shipped, Insured, and Paypal'd After you take out shipping, insurance, and Paypal, that makes it about a inexpensive guitar.

If no one wants it at this price I'll move it to eBay and I'll find out how much it's worth then.

I downloaded the high rez zip file. These pics show many angles, and all marks on the guitar. There'll be no surprises

to the new owner after looking at them. It'd be nice if all guitar sellers would / could post the high rez pics, like

LockBody has done.

Very nicely done. smiley-thumbsup.gif

jeezus cripes!!! WTF, somebody buy this!!!

if it had a thinner neck & i didn't just buy "bob wilson",

i wouldn't be able to resist (having trouble resisting now!!!).

Wow. You are making this really difficult. THat's such a sweet guitar and the repair looks so solid...and I don't have that much sunk into that "V" project at this point. Tempting...

You don't see that much on this site.

Medium, but fast.

true. i'm just different that way, i prefer thin.

in the past i have had a bad habit of buying AWESOME hamers

(bobbymack's artist, mr fuzzy's newport, poe's P90 duotone, several other duotones)

and later selling them just because of the mid to mid-chunky necks.

promised myself i wouldn't do that anymore.

I was told my white Vector with boomers was a thin neck, but it's rather medium to me --the Vector KK I had, that was thin. I prefer chunky necks, but that's kind of... subjective... So, it's about time to give some numbers to what is "thin", "medium" or "chunky", don't you think?

Is your resistance breaking my friend?

 No, no... This year I don't want to fall for things I like but don't really need… and I don't even use tremolo bars anymore!

What I really need at this point is what I said before: a Boss Loop Station RC-50, a set of humbucker-sized P-90's (I'm going with Vintage Vibe) and a Pignose Piggy-in-a-Box -- Steve's Music is selling them; I just have to make some time to go buy one.

Also, remember we still have to refinish those two Vectors you're keeping home... ;)

Any offers before I send it off to eBay?

*edit-Removed "trades" because I need another guitar like I need a another hole in my head.

I do, I would really like to have. I'm just broke, and try'n to move stuff myself.... :D

I love your guitar. I really do. I figure my own guitar project is really an attempt to get to a guitar like yours. I'm trying to raise some scratch, but ya gotta do whatcha gotta do.

Tease me. How does she sound unplugged? Bright / dark? Do harmonics just emote from her?

Warm as yer mama's lap, and sweet as your first girlfriend's kisses. I tell you, it's sometimes hard for me to play this guitar because all the harmonics leaping from the fretboard tend to get make it difficult to keep my fingers pressed down. :D

Really.
