Lockbody Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK!!!! I tripped over the cable while my Vector was on the stand. In slow motion I watched it fall right on it's face just out of reach. One day soon I'll be sending it off to BCR I imagine, but right now I'm just inconsolable. I bet it can be brought back into playing condition fairly easily, which is what I care about the most, but I sure did just toss it's resale value down the toilet. I could just cry.
Lockbody Posted January 20, 2008 Author Posted January 20, 2008 Ouch. What is that, a Vintage Orange Vector? Cherry
LordOfTheThighs Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Oh man ... that's a MAJOR beoyoch! I haven't ever had that happen to me, but if it did, I wouldn'tstop crying for a week.
edgar_allan_poe Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Dude...that really sucks. My sympathies. I know how that feels. I watched my Redwood Huber take a fall during a show. Luckily, there was just a small dent on the back of the neck.
Camstone Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Condolences bro! Ouch.... I watched my Newport take a fall out of a stand a couple of months ago after a vocalist tripped on the chord. Luckily, it was a heavily carpeted and padded stage, so no damage, not even a ding. But it freaked me out so bad I ran right out and bought three of the Hercules stands (where the guitar hangs from the headstock). Good luck with the repair, Platzer's your man.
Gitslide Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 A roadie from another band once knocked over my '78 Sunburst resulting in similar damage. I figured I'd drop the instrument in a dumpster on the way home . . . "Don't", someone said, and then gave me the name of the guy I now believe to be the finest repair guy in the Boston area. The repair was dome so well - on a clear cherry finish like yours - that it was not visible. The tuning stability was unchanged, the guitar was perfect. After a few years, the lacquer around the break would shrink and the shadow of the crack would be visible. I'd just brush a little clear lacquer on it, wait a few days, then sand it flat with 600 and buff it up with rubbing compound. Invisible, again.Your Vector will live again!
MCChris Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 A roadie from another band once knocked over my '78 Sunburst resulting in similar damage. I figured I'd drop the instrument in a dumpster on the way home . . . You should have dropped the roadie in the dumpster on the way home.Fear of a broken headstock is why I only take my bolt-ons to shows anymore.
murkat Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Oh snap! Dammmm. I agree, Greg will bring it back, the sooner the better to get it to him just the way it is, strung up, etc.... But then again, He'll know better what to do pre send. Sorry man. ouch.
Punkavenger Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 OUCH! condolences ... I've almost had that happen several times, but I've been lucky i guess. No worries, Greg will fix it for you just fine. Of course ... then you have to worry about shipping
LadyScary Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 that picture brought tears to my eyes! Sorry to see that!
BubbaVO Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Ughh. I'm dizzy with pain. That is an absolutely kick ass Vector.
shesky Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 That sucks! I can't stand when I put a ding in a guitar, I can't imagine what that must feel like. shesky
bubs_42 Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 I could have gone without seeing that, I had to rush in the other room and check to make sure mine was still in the stand.. Sorry..
earachemyeye Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Oh that would definately piss me off for a while. Sorry to see that. I hate cords for that reason. Always jumping out there and trying to wreck my guitars. Bastards.Joe
geoff_hartwell Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 I know you feel inconsolable now, but it WILL play again. And as good, if not BETTER than before.I had the neck broken off my main Duotone in an accident that totalled my vanincluding my entire PA, and amps strewn across a highway. I was lucky to actually WALK away from the scene, but when I opened the case I really did cry. It was the event that brought me in contact with the HFC community, and it's done roughly a thousand gigs since.Rather than sacrifice my loss and start from scratch, she said to me,"Don't operate on me as if I'm dead. I've got a LONG life ahead of me. And my songs are not yet sung."
IPlayLoud Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Bummed me right out when I saw that first break! Sorry to hear the bad news, hope your better with it now,
Gino Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Ouuch - I can feel that pain! Had that happen with my 79 Sunburst back in 1980 - except I didn't knock it over but that drummer of ours. And that jerk didn't tell me about it, just put it back in the stand. That was before a gig. When I wanted to check the tuning later on, I was wondering why the pitch got lower and lower, the more I was tuning up. And then I was staring at blank, cracked up wood! That pain has been with me ever since. And a headstock crack, that could have been repaired perfectly by someone like Greg was messed up all the way by a so-called repair guy who wanted to rip off our drummer's insurance. But you'll be a lot better off
