DavidE Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 My band is opening for a "national act" Friday night. Funny thing is that I played in the acoustic version of this act, the original band for this act was our band and we still share a drummer (not to mention the other guitar player on occasion). :-) Anyway, we're playing for an hour and I'm either going to use one of the guitar players' Mesa 4x12's with my Bogner Shiva head or I'll just use his whole rig. He plays through a Mesa 3 channel rectifier head and I really have no idea how they sound.Any thoughts on this?I figure I'll plug my rig into his head and try it and if I don't like it, I'll hook up my Shiva. I need clean and gain from the amp, but I don't want chunka chunka high gain mesa recto gain.
Mindseyes Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 If you dont want the "chunka chunka " try runing ch 2 &3 in raw or vintage mode and it should get you by.Recto or sooooo thought of as just a metal amp but if you twist the dials there's a bunch -o- sounds you can get from them.If you got time to mess with it before you play you should be ok.Good luck!
Ethan Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 +1 use the "vintage" or "raw" sounds in channel 2, channel 3 is deeper and has less mids....i have been using my dual rectifier for years, when i bought it i was playing in a post-hardcore band, now i play in an alt-country/americana band and it hasn't missed a step yet. granted i put el34s in for power tubes and i do like that much better but that is a matter of taste. HOWEVER, i will say that these amps take some getting used to, especially with how the controls interact, so for this fact alone coupled with my assumption that you won't have a lot of time to mess with settings, why not just bring your bogner head? ...and then i re-read the last part of your post and answered my own question
DavidE Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 Pat said I can twist knobs to my heat's content and he'll readjust before they start. I'll check those voicing switches and see if I can dial it in quickly. If not, I'll get the Shiva set up in a few minutes. I just hope they get their sound check done early enough for me to mess with it.Or maybe I just take my Matchless Lightning 15 which takes no setup at all. :-)

These guys are leading you in the right direction with the voicings.
jisham Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I played Rectos for years and like everyone says, twist the knobs awhile and you'll find great tones. They are way more versatile than people think.
DavidE Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 Matchless Lightning FTW!Do it.CJ"FTW"??? Not sure what that means.I thought about that as well, but it's a big place and I need some clean headroom. Still, for the harmonic content of the guitar tone it might be a good way to go. We're talking about a place that holds 1500 people, though I'm guessing there won't be too many people there.
DavidE Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 f**k the world? Is that a reflection of your new age, Dan? ;-)

silentman Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 [Too much effort for a one hour set! ;-)Me thinks you answered your own question. Bring your amp and know what you're in for. You'll be happier not looking back at the amp the whole time if you don't like what you're hearing.

Then do I bring the Shiva since I'll be able to open it up or do I take the Matchless and hope it has enough headroom? LOL.
Aceldama Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Un-related, but when I shared a rehearsal space with a good friend of mine, my hobby was to turn one knob on his Mesa MK IV. Juuuuust one...
kurtsstuff Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 The only problem with Boogie amps of any model is..Most of the people that own them have no frickin clue how to dial them in (I said "most").....Forget everything you think you know about amps and you'll be fine
Scottcrud Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Mesa 3 channel rectumfriers....Suck. I liked everything about my 3 ch triple recto except the tone.
