I know I am getting old but i swear I never heard of a special run of Korina Juniors that were 1 of 33. Anyone who can shed some light on this elusive Hami, please post and educate me.

I remember the original Artist Korinas had a run of about 30 or so. I can't say I remember a special run of the Korina Jr (except for the Jr/Special pairs that have been discussed here).

it may have been from a small run commissioned by a retailer (vintage style kluson tuners - all else the same as other korina jrs).

A photo of the back of the headstock would solve the mystery. It would have a limited number in addition to the regular serial number. I would bet he is confusing it with the Artist Korina run. I can't imagine any one retailer selling 33 of those. The shop near me only had one and they had to sell at a ridiculously low blow out price just to move it. I would have bought it myself but I have that ground covered with my BCR Jr.

edited to add that I requested a photo of the back of the headstock. Will report back when I have more info.

He is selling off some fine guitars in his other auctions. He is citing divorce as the reason. If I was the Scott Peterson type I might consider taking my wife fishing before parting with some of those.

Here is the answer I received.....

"Dear mirrorimij,

this was the first run, I understand that they were not intending on making anymore but they received a ton of requests so they started to make this a normal production line. The main difference is the quality of korina & the vintage tuners. the serial number on the add "4 532 33" identifies this guitar, there are a couple of threads on the internet about it as well. it was picked up at the 2005 NAM Show.

- madcomsys"

Because of the way he split up the serial number I'm inclined to think he believes the first number is the limited edition number and the last two identify how many were in that run. Anyway it certainly is a beautiful guitar but not a limited edition like the Korina Standards/Vectors/Artists, etc.

Yeah...

The quality of the Korina really went downhill after the NAMM (uh, sorry, "NAM") show, and of course, the vintage tuners. :D

I was at the '05 NAMM show and took a bunch of pics. I'll have to check to see if I got the serial number of the Korina Special at that show. His facts are a little off, as they were definitely marketing that as a regular production model and not as a LE.

What kind of tuners to the other Korina Jr's have? I think every one I've seen has these same tuners.

Yeah his facts are off but I'm not going to be the one to kick a guy when he's down. Any predictions what it will sell for? I say $1050 which will be grand theft.

Hey Mirrorimij !

Thanks for all the upfront work. I want to think that the Korina Junior returned to the regular Hamer lineup in 2003 or 2004.

If it was NAMM 2005, then it was a normal production guitar.

As far as tuners go, Korina Juniors run the gambit.

Grovers

Original Styled Strip Tuners - Kluson

The new Schaller Klusons

BCR Music and Sound, Lost Art, and Willcutts all ran some sort of limited runs or variations there of of Juniors.

On the price it might get as high as $1,200 but right now prices are slighted depressed due to the economy. Even at that price its a steal.

Thanks again for the work.

I remember LostArt had a run of korina Juniors 4-5 years ago, but I don't know if it totaled 33. They had a compensated wraptail like the one in the eBay ad.

BCR had a very limited run (6? 12?) of red-stained mahogany juniors with Kluson strip tuners on a slightly thinner headstock. I think these had the old Gibson style wraptail. Out of the ensuing discussions came the saying, "Intonation is for pussies."

6 TV Yellow came first, then 6 Cherry and I think another 6 in Vintage Orange (please correct me if I'm wrong). Here is mine surrounded by some Korina goodness.

BCR made more than the (666) initial run. I have one that was made after the fact in TV Yellow. Not sure how many were actually made there was a thread relating to this (the BCR Run) a couple of months ago. There are a bunch of one offs that are cool as hell.

On the Lost Art ones, I remember Alpep had some that were spec'd one piece bodies in korina, which is cool. Not everyone of those specials or juniors were one piece bodies.

I custom ordered a bass that was completed in late December, 2004. The serial number is about 20 away from that one. The seller says that the dealer told him it was a limited edition of 33.

That dealer was/is full of $#!+ ...

Still, it's a nice guitar. Very nice guitar. Mine has a 2 piece body and I'm guessing it's just as nice as a 1 piece, but I'd still rather have a 1 piece. LOL.... I also like the look of the vintage style tuners.

But no, the Korina isn't going to be any "better."

Posted

Well it sold for about what I thought it would. Anyone here end up with it and could they confirm if it was a one piece body. The steal was the Monaco Gold top with the p 90's for about the same price.

Too bad it was a divorce sale prompting it.

I'm nearly certain that there was a green/tort one in one of the BCR runs.

I thought that Stonge ordered a green one from Alpep - that's the only one I remember though. My memory ain't what it used to be though...
