"Hot" Cruisebass on eBay?

FYI, a lot of the bolt ons from that era (Daytona/T51/Cruisebass, etc) have a batch number stamped in the bridge pickup cavity. If these are visible through the paint you might be able to use this as a secondary identifying mark. Most thieves will erase the obvious serial number but I doubt any thieves would know to erase those marks.

I just sent the seller a question saying that I couldn't see the serial number in the picture and to please post a picture showing the serial number. Let's see what happens.

Look like the eBay questions are not getting posted in the ad. Too bad that we can't alert potential buyers to this. Its at $530 right now so its approaching the price of a legit instrument.

I just reported it to ebay as stolen property. Anyone else who asked the seller for the serial number should do the same.

PLEASE tell me that's not what it looks like!

(And I thought "Pizza Day" finishes were bad...)

Geez guys I mean it's nice that it's being discussed here and folks are pointing out that the serial number has PROBABLY been removed, but contacting ebay and stating for a fact that the bass is stolen property seems a bit over the top. I don't know the bass or the seller personally, but he does have a history of positive transactions on ebay. I'd be inclined to at least give the guy the benefit of the doubt that he may have acquired the instrument legit. Granted as a seller he should probably make an effort to post pictures of the area in question if he's getting bombarded with requests for that, but it doesn't necessarily make the guy a criminal. Just seems to be an over reaction to me considering you'd be potenitally getting the guy's auction yanked basically on assumptions we're making here on the forum.

That's my take as well. Also, given the professionalism in the ad, it hardly seems like a case where the guy in question stole the bass and is reselling it. There's no way to prove anything, so I certainly don't think reporting the guy's auction is the right move.

I don't know Chris, this one posted right above the picture you linked to shows it too. Must be case lint. That would be a LOT of pubes under the finish (and thin ones too).

It may seem like a bit of an overreaction, but this same seller had this bass up for sale a while ago and behaved exactly the same way -- never mentioned anything about the missing serial number and never responded to any inquiries about it.

There have been plenty of Hamers for sale where a refinish has taken the serial number and the sellers have been quite up front about it. My Miller High Life guitar has the serial number quite visibly removed and the seller made no attempt to hide that fact nor did he care that it was going to the Hamer factory in an attempt to determine whether or not it had been stolen.

The fact that this person is avoiding the obvious issue and ignoring questions about it pretty much tosses any professionalism he may have had right out the window.

Regardless, eBay will not pull the auction unless they are contacted by a law enforcement agency.

If I recall...last time on EBAY the SN# gough was lighter in color. This time it looks like it's been made to blend in better so it is not as noticeable?

I just got a reply from the seller.

Here is the question I sent: I can't see the serial number in the photo of the back of the headstock. Can you post a picture showing the serial number?

And here is the reply I received: yep no serial number. Thats how i got it from an authorized dealer in los angeles. it didnt have the serial number

I'm more inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt now that he has at least answered the question.
