specialk Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Hey all, I'm looking for a decent practice amp and want to keep it under $250. Having a built-in power attenuator is a big plus on the list of options. Here are two I've found. http://www.voxamps.com/us/modernclassic/ac4tv/ The Vox AC4TV with a 10" Celestion speaker. Good reviews from some of the guys here. And, http://www.bugera-amps.com/EN/products/V5.aspx The Bugera V5 amp with 8" speaker. I haven't heard anything about this one. They both have the ability to do 1/4W, 1W or 4 or 5W out. Any others out there I should be looking for? Thanks!
Ethan Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Dude honestly I'd get the Epiphone Galaxie amp out of this classified ad...http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/index.p...&hl=galaxie

JohnnyB Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Something from Blackheart perhaps? The Little Giant has a pentode/triode switch to flip between 5 and 3 watts. The Killer Ant head makes something less than 1 watt. They make a matching speaker cab, but you could get a speaker cab at a pawn shop.
fruhike Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I have done this search on the board too. I have settled on a Roland Microcube and I just recently got a Tech 21 TM10. Both great little amps, and great reviews on this board. That being said, my Tech 21 TM120 also sounds great at lower volumes. I have been doing a bit of an amp-a-palooza lately.I am interested in folks oppinions as well.
harry65 Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 fender vibro champ xd , all tube , amazing replica blackface tones , some good marshall and mesa sounds but it absolutely nails the early fender tones , pick one up on the evilbay for around $150....................
specialk Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 Thanks very much for all the great ideas, guys! Unfortunately, someone told my car that I had some leftover coin and it decided it wanted them instead, So I'm gonna stick with my "just fine" Crate practice amp for now. Someday I'll get an amp with at least a 10" speaker, just not now. So someone jump on that kick@$$ Epiphone Galaxie amp that Carfish has!

When you recover from your car's demands, I have a 1999 Epiphone Electar Tube 10 combo available; it's a single 6L6 tube amp making about 10w (hence the name) driving an 8" speaker. It's in like new condition. Or, to follow your dream, since it's so hard to find a really low powered combo with 10" or 12" speaker, give more thought to a Blackheart head and then find a 1x12 cab at a pawn shop.
Armitage Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I'm always looking for something better then the Vox Valvetronix line for low volume playing... haven't found anything yet.
Feynman Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I'm always looking for something better then the Vox Valvetronix line for low volume playing... haven't found anything yet.I agree. They just sound great at low volumes.
Armitage Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 My dream amp right now is a 6 watt stereo 5150 with a mono out, stereo return F/X loop... physically small with extension speakers I could hide behind a chair in my family room.I'm sure someone will do it... and it'll sell like nutz, then everyone will do it.I don't NEED volume in my house, I need TONE... and something that'll look nice in my home... or disappear.Heck, make it really smart... have the whole thing wedge shaped, amp and all, and have it remote controlled, with a retractable guitar cord that goes under the sofa. Hmmm....
specialk Posted April 16, 2010 Author Posted April 16, 2010 I don't NEED volume in my house, I need TONE... Bingo! Best way I've heard it put.

But I saw this on ebay and thought i might be what your looking for. Vibro Champ XD Thanks for the link, Carl. It looks like a good price on a good amp but I'm gonna pass. I'll just keep adding to my amp fund and sooner or later buy exactly what I want.
Carl.B Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Yeah I have a big pickel jar where all my change goes too and I use that too fund my GAS.
Kurt L Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Gotta put in a plug for the Roland Micro Cube. I use it as often as my bigger amps - if not more!I see 'em pretty cheap on Craigslist all the time.
