Jem Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Another G&T sir ? Teeny tiny dots If you modify this again it won't make any sense but: "I'd suggest you leave your thought's about schoolgirls to yourself" No, i think i've used enough 'smileys' tonight................................
Bennyboy-UK Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Errrrrrrm. Errrrrr. Yeah! Defo! Emma and me have nearly canes a box of vino (classy, I know!) so it just gets worse from here! How bout a mental preamp a la m'bird but without the "bollocks-knob" filter thingy? Just one tiny switch a concentric pot on the vol...Go on, admit it, you liked it!BPS I'll be quiet now.
Guest JackButler Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Not teeny tiny dots.. I'm blind in my right eye and can only use the left one.. and yep.. I'm serious..lol.. If what I'm looking at in that pic above is a trial.. those look good from here..
Jem Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Bit of progress for you. Next in line will be radiusing the board (14") then fretting and then scalloping. Some scallop before fretting (this is often because it's done by machine) but i find having the frets in is an essential visual for me to make everything even as it'll be done by hand. Oh, and i'll put the dot markers in up to the 9th, finishing the job after the scallop. Almost looks a bit guitar like !
specialk Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Cool stuff Jem. Good work, great looking guitar in the works. Thanks for the update!

Jem Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 And now the inclusion of round pearly things and straight metally things
edgar_allan_poe Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Damn...are those frets or metallic railroad ties? LOL!!! AWESOME!!!!!!! I shudder to think of the abuse that Kevin will distribute on this instrument. HA!!!
Jem Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Damn...are those frets or metallic railroad ties? LOL!!! AWESOME!!!!!!! I shudder to think of the abuse that Kevin will distribute on this instrument. HA!!! Dunlop 6000 - they list it as 'maximum mass' and who am i to argue
Guest JackButler Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 I like them as tall and as wide as possible.. .. TALL is the most important to me.. I don't wanna feel ANY drag/friction from the fingerboard. I don't wanna feel the fingerboard at all.
specialk Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 That really looks good! I've never seen cocobolo used as a fingerboard, but I used to have a sheath knife with a cocobolo handle. Very hard, non-porous and gorgeous, really shined up well. Love the look of this one!
Jem Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 And now with scalloping: Still need some tidying but you get the idea. Next we leave the neck and turn our attention to the body: pickup, trem and control cavities.

If what I'm looking at in that pic above is a trial.. those look good from here.. howsa'bout trying that Danny Gatton trick - tiny cubic zirconias as the position markers on the side of the neck? Supposedly they pick up the smallest bit of light in the room and pretty easy to see. Of course, if you have less than perfect technique™ you might rip off your thumb doing that Hendrix grip lol...
Guest JackButler Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Scalloping looks AWESOME! Sorry I missed your call.. on the road till tomorrow and then home/work until Friday morning and then back out on the road through Monday.. will keep the cell charged best I can just in case!

Sorry I missed your call.. on the road till tomorrow and then home/work until Friday morning and then back out on the road through Monday.. will keep the cell charged best I can just in case! That's OK, i know it's mega busy time for you - mind you when isn't it Glad you like, i even scalloped the little bit of board after the 27th just for cuteness. I'll take a pic from the front, it's all sort of 'wavy' where the scallop goes through the figure. I'll try you tomorrow or Thursday.
Guest JackButler Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Here's a new pic of a new board and the scalloping! TADA!!!! YUMMY!
Jem Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Just to fill people in:On the original board, by the time i'd got all the scallops to the same level it looked too much, too deep. OK, it would probably play alright but the more i looked at it the more it didn't look quite right. I talked this through with Kev and he said 'i'm sure it'll be fine' but it kept nagging me so i ripped the original board off and made this replacement that i'm much happier with.
ZR Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Here's a new pic of a new board and the scalloping! TADA!!!! YUMMY! That fretboard is insane!!!
