No no no no no Mr Matthes, this one's going to be a grown up one, hell, the Dimarzio's aren't even fruitgum coloured :(

On a side note, would you guys like me to keep this thread updated with progress pics ? i know quite a few guys here like that sort of thing and it may help a few partscaster guys here take the plunge and start butchering bits of mother nature up themselves !

Well, that's just not a proper guitar then, is it? :(

DEFINITELY keep us posted on the progress - love your builds. That would be great in the "Ask the Experts" section!

I must admit an alder body blank and a bottle of Pornstar pink pearl is at the ready if this starts looking too middle aged

Ok, i'll update it from time to time - it's a busy time for the European wheel industry and i've a fair amount of travelling to do over the next month or so but i'll try to get at it whenever i can....feeling knackerd and power tools isn't a great combination, even handtools can be very lethal when your tired.

Oh, perhaps Rob or someone can yank it over to the 'Ask.....' section, does sort of fit in with the general idea.

You guys should've been privy to listening in on the conversation with Steve Blucher when I was having that first set of pups made..

we were throwing colors out there and he throw out..well how about candy purple and lipstick red.. and I go "ok".. and he's like, no seriously.. me:" no.. go ahead.. do it..".. Steve B:" well hell why not shoot for electric baby blue on the neck?!?".. me: "ok... do it".. SteveB:"you're not right in the head are you?!?".. so then he's all serious and telling me "well, I'll have to stay late and do these myself after production is done b/c we just don't keep these in stock."..lol.. it was the first thing I ever called in to claim on my endorsement deal!

Keep posting!

Although, I think the headstock got the wrong angle? Should be a down swing rather than up swing.

Did I find an error?

That's looking proper tasty already mate, posh inlays or no inlays this time?

B

Seeing Kevin want's it scalloped from 12 through 27 dots is the obvious answer - well i suppose you could do some sort of shape but you'd have to keep it small....i think at the end of the day dots is the way to go but, as i've got bored of reading restaurant menu's from 3 foot away, i've gone and got an eye test and now have glasses which means i can actually see well enough to cut inlays again ! I have sort of a plan for a 'signiture' inlay that could cover two frets but more of that later when i've done a few test peices.

Oh, here's the specs:

Mahogany body with quilt top, neck is 3pc laminated maple with a cocobolo fingerboard that will be scalloped from frets 12 to 27.

Hardware will be Gotoh and in chrome: floyd, lock and their ever sexy 510 tuners. Fretwire will be Dunlop 6000.

Pickups come from Dimarzio and are an Andy Timmons zebra in the bridge and a creme Chopper for the neck.

Finish wise i'm looking to tone it down a bit so i'm thinking a dark amber sort of thing - may have a little twist somewhere along the way - but sorry Chris, no metalflake

Kevin, Do you already play the other one with an Andy Timmons bridge? How does that compare to an Air/tone Zone? Never played one but the specs looked intriguing.

ZR, I have NOT yet played a guitar with the AT pup.. usually in mahogany with a maple top, I'd go with a Super3.. but in talking with Steve @ DiMarzio.. we discussed that this pup was specifically designed with mahogany in mind.. so I figured.. I don't have that flavor yet.. might as well give it a spin.

edited to add that the "sparkle/flake" guitar has a Evo/Chopper combo and the yellow LED guitar has a TZ bridge and a Fernandes Sustainer unit in the neck.

Thinking offset dots 'ala a Centaura possibly.

That sounds just the job. Little ones like on a MusicMan, or honking great big ones? - I think little ones about the size of edge dots would be really cool - make the most of that rather tasty peice of fingerboard.

Very, very cool Jem and Kevin,

Ben.

I was thinking around 3 or 4mm but 2mm side dots may look quite understated - fitting with Mr Dillard's general demeanour !. I'll lay some on and see what it looks like in the morning as it's 8:30pm and it's past cyder time :D

OK, i'll do it during cyder time :D

I'd thought about using 2mm dots but disguarded the idea in my head as too small. Just looked at a Centaura neck and i actually think they look too big !

Anyway, just started the second can (can holder featured  ) and it works for me - what say ye' Kev ?

Edited to say: i haven't touched the top on the body at all hence the glue line's quite visable.
