bartmcartman Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Has anyone tried the Hamer rs upgrade kit? How did it change your tone?
BubbaVO Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 I've purchased some guitars that seemed like they were stored in salt water. The upgrade kit was very useful for replacing pots/wiring that are in terrible shape.
bartmcartman Posted May 5, 2010 Author Posted May 5, 2010 Has anyone tried the Hamer rs upgrade kit? How did it change your tone?Seems like the cap that Hamer uses adds a bit of a hi-fi high end? I think overall the electronics work fairly nicely. Not sure what the RS kit would accomplish but then again I don't know anyone that's tried one.
Disturber Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 ......just doesn't seem necessary. Agreed. Agreed plus one. I say they are already upgraded from the factory.
GusS Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 aren't hamerz known for usable tones with the pots rolled off?
gtone Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I upgraded my import Standard, since the internals looked less than ideal, but my Hamer USA appears to have solid components in the harness.

Punkavenger Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 obviously pointless if you have a brand spanking new talladega but extremely useful for that 86 chap thats been modified 6000 times
jisham Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I've put RS Kits in Gibsons and other brands for years, and they absolutely make a huge difference if your guitar has run-of-the-mill electronics. I agree with others though: Hamer USA components are high end already, although I could see changing the tone cap just for a different sound.
dalep Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Well, I have a 95 studio that appears to have been changes a number of times. It has at least one bad pot. I am in the process of upgrading the internals. This kit seemed a decent way to go I guess. It arrived today. The oil cap is huge. It had Carvin pups that I do not like much C22 7's. I am dropping a set of 36th Ann. DZO's and going with black pickup rings. I need some longer screws for the bridge ring. I have those ordered and some other parts to make the order worth my time. I will post my thoughts when I get it done.
