paulcozby Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Hi,I just purchased a Steve Stevens and the wiring appears to be incorrect. It is the 3 PUP version, which 2 toggle switches.Does anyone have a PDF of the wiring schematics? Thanks,Paul
cmatthes Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Sure do!http://www.hamerfanclub.com/wire/stevestevens.pdf
paulcozby Posted January 20, 2011 Author Posted January 20, 2011 Thanks for the diagram.Looks like I need replacement toggle switches, both the 3 way and 2 way.Anybody have a source for two toggles that would somewhat match the SS1?Thanks,Paul
geoff_hartwell Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Can someone explain to me the advantage of the switches and how they work? Geoff
bubs_42 Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Advantages? None that i've seen. Other than the 3 main tones are easily had with the 3 way and the Middle pup is there if you want it.
StoneMKE Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Request for cmatthes:Please forgive the fact that I'm pretty new to message boards. Anyway, seeing that you have some info on the SS wiring, do you know specifically what type of pick ups they were loaded with from the factory?Specifically the Steve Stevens 1. If the answer is the "Slammer" pick up, could you possibly post a link for more info on that p/u?Thanks!
geoff_hartwell Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Advantages? None that i've seen. Other than the 3 main tones are easily had with the 3 way and the Middle pup is there if you want it.Is it two 3-way switches, or a 3-way and a 2-way? How do they work? Settings?
BONEDADYO Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 A 3 way & a 2 way. The 2 way activates the middle pickup. The 3 way is bridge/bridge & neck/neck. The 2 way allows the middle to be brought into any one of those selections.
GusS Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 the 2-way switches between the middle single coil and the humbucker. This makes it either a H-S or S-S guitar
Montelovesco Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Hi, I'm coming back to StoneMK's request, since I have the same question: Does anybody know what PU were build in the SS1 from the factory? And how do I recognize them? I'm asking because me 1984 SS1 sounds a little lame.Thank you and best regards from Bavaria/Germany
bubs_42 Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Hamer Slammer Pickups. Hamer Guitars on the back of the bridge pickup and the Singles really don't have a marking other than they have no bezel.http://www.hamerfanclub.com/wire/stevestevens.pdf
Montelovesco Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Thanks a lot! Any suggestions for a replacement? Lots of sustain (of course) and overtones/pinch harmonics wanted... By the way, who doesn't? :-)
bubs_42 Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 These http://wcrguitar.com/murkat.html I've played them and they sound awsome. If the guitar needs some TLC send it to Murkat and he will tune it to your guitar even, possible, maybe.
bubs_42 Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 TLC? Sorry, german... :-)Tender Loving Care, Steve put a JB in his guitars and the Murkat is up that alley but better.
bcsride Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 The search for the right pickup in the right guitar is a good one. I love the stock pickups in my SSI. Lots of dynamics. Very sensitive to the pick attack. Good with pinch harmonics. But, to each their own I guess.
Montelovesco Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 @bubs_42: Thank you, I will give them a thought. But@bcsride: Maybe I give them another chance and try my amp setting. Perfect for the Studio und the Special, but somewhat muddy for the SS1.
AndyW Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Since you're living in Germany,check Dommenget-Pick-ups in Hamburg.
bcsride Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 the 2-way switches between the middle single coil and the humbucker. This makes it either a H-S or S-S guitarI gave the diagram a closer look, and this is correct (I think). So you get option of B, M, N, B+N, or M+N. But you can't get B+M.
bubs_42 Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Bridge, Bridge/Neck, Neck. Flip the two way forward (toward neck) and then you have Bridge/Middle, Middle, Middle Neck. The two way basicly puts the middle pup in play.
Studio Custom Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 The harder to find 2 way can be found right on eBay:http://www.ebay.com/itm/Augat-Alco-Toggle-Switch-MTG-106D-SPDT-/260767774048Alco MTG 106DAs for the three way, you can use a Les Paul 3 way to get a longer throw, or hunt down that switch as well, don;t know the model numer, sorry.
Montelovesco Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Thanks a lot! That really helped me out.
